A slew of problems with my new '15 ST

Hey guys, I purchased my new '15 ST2 a few weeks ago and so far I've had nothing but problems with it. So far I've had the body control module software update recall done, front grill and license plate bracket replaced due to faulty clips, a faulty engine motor mount, front A pillar, steering column panel, alignment and front door panel tightened. It has 1k miles on it. My dealer is doing a great job but right now I'm very disappointed with Ford and their quality control. Is there anything that I should do based on these issues? Was thinking writing a nice long letter to Ford customer care to voice my opinion. NOW after bringing it back for the second time, the metal on metal clunking is still persistent, the one touch windows don't work all the time, I have to slam the trunk down in order for it to close properly, and the NEW replacement grill keeps popping out. Plus I'm hearing some engine chatter at idle which is disconcerting. I have a conference call with the service manager tomorrow and will update the progress here. Thanks!

ummmm since it is only a few weeks old has the dealer considered replacing it with a new one? Where are you located? I don't know how the "no lemon law" works in most states. Most of those issues sound very isolated to your car except the grill issue which many people on here have fixed on there own.

I truly believe that these issues are isolated to my vehicle. I haven't really had a chance to discuss my options with my dealer or with Ford because the car has been in the shop for an extended amount of time. Do you think it is worth pursuing the lemon law in my state?

Not true.. at least in my state, Ohio. If its been in the shop 30 days in the first 18k miles, it qualifies.

In the first year or first 18,000 miles, whichever occurs first:
• Have three or more attempts been made to repair one problem and then the problem either continues to exist or occurs again?
• Has the vehicle been in the shop for a cumulative total of 30 days or more during its first year or 18,000 miles, whichever occurs first?
• Have eight or more attempts been made to fix different problems?
• Has one unsuccessful attempt been made to fix a problem that could cause death or serious injury?

The hatch has adjustable stops that most likely need some tweeking. I had the same issue and fixed it my self in about 5 minutes. The engine chatter is most likely the fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pump. They are normally a bit noisy. The one touch window buttons must be pushed all the way down or pulled all the way up to properly operate. I have noticed this with my car some times I don't get the switch fully engaged and the window just opens a crack. The metal on metal I'm not sure about.

Send from another galaxy.

Hey focus_st23,

Congrats on your new ST! :) I'm more than happy to lend a hand with the issues you're experiencing. Please PM your name, VIN, mileage, dealer, and best daytime phone number. Talk to you soon!

Did you end up adjusting the stops out or in? Was the trunk scraping against the bumper causing scratches on the lip? Thanks for the how to on the bumper. If the dealer doesnt fix this, i'll try it myself. Thanks!

Wow that is a lot of problems.

Sorry to hear about all of that, try the grill fix yourself. It takes just a few minutes and it works perfectly.

I'm betting the engine noise you are hearing is just the direct injection, it's completely normal (sounds like a small diesel, rattly, crackly). BMW had TONS of customer complaints about this when they first came out.

As far as i know there is no harness recall on the 15?

I have to disagree.

My car before this was a BMW 330cic. Loved it.

My '14 has been -- in quality, features, performance -- quite good compared to my BMW. While the materials and workmanship are definitely cheaper, I certainly didn't expect $60k luxury materials for a $30k car.

Maybe I'm lucky, but I got a good one. My ST3 has been a very good car, not a "cheap" one. I'm comparing that to my BMW experience.

My biggest beef with Ford is their dealers and service -- on so many levels. Policy, personnel, parts structuring, skill, quality. So far my experience has led me to take my warrantied car to a Ford dealer for service as a last resort. I'll pay first to have the work done by someone skilled, or do it myself. It's gotta be something major that's gonna start to run into the many hundreds or more before I'll consider taking it to Ford.

In my opinion, this is one of the biggest values you get for you extra $$ at BMW, Audi, or one of the luxury brands. The experience with BMW service, their people, BMW's customer satisfaction principles and policies, and on and on -- night and day.

Ford Service wants to squeeze you for whatever they can, and do as little work as possible as fast as possible.

BMW Service wants you to buy another BMW.

It's that simple.

I have a thread about several panel fitment issues I have with my 2015. It's a real shame that such a fun well engineered car looks like it was put together with aftermarket panels from China. I peeled off the "proudly built in Michigan" sticker, because that's a lie.

Sorry to hear about all those issues. Hopefully they'll be fixed and/or get you a new ride. I'd be pretty upset also.

I personally switched to all Ford products over the past few years: 3 Focus (1 Titanium & 2 ST's), a MKX, MKZ, Mustang GT and a Ford AWD Flex. Other than a couple very minor issues they all are or were really well built autos. (I did have a 2010 Camaro in the mix for a while - and it's build quality was decent).

Ihave a 2015 as well. I just turned 3200 miles. I have had nothing but issues. I have had consistently low gas mileage, the grill has been replaced, the glove box has been replaced. I am having issues with a gap in the moonroof cover, there is a gap and i think they may have to replace my headliner. Very frustrating. I like the car but will never buy another ford.

<---------- is very happy he bought a 2013. :serious:

As I sit here reading this I can't help but think "Oh No". I'm supposed to be accepting delivery of my 2015 in September. Looks like I will have to start compiling a list of all the potential "problems" to check before I sign any final paperwork.

Thanks Austin. Its hard for me right now because this is the first ford I've ever purchased, and also the first "brand new" car I've ever purchased. It would break my heart to find out I've put my money into in a lemon. I guess only time will tell, but at lease I'll have a good idea of what to look out for when I pick it up.

My dealer is working out the issues now and I'm confident that these issues will be resolved. BUT this doesn't diminish the fact that my loyalty with Ford has been tainted. I cannot believe that a brand new car built in May of this year has had so many problems! What blows my mind is that this vehicle passed all quality control assessments AND was shipped to a dealership for sale. I'm very disappointed with Ford and this will definitely question my next vehicle purchase down the road. If i were Ford, I would figure out a way to keep me a loyal customer.

Every car company has the same problems. I have not had a single issue with my 15 i bought in febuary. I'm at 10,400 miles.

I'd argue you'd have similar problems with every company that sells economy cars. You don't see this many people with BMWs or Lexuses having issues with rattling interiors, loose/misaligned body panels, bad grounds from the factory etc... but you have to remember this is an economy car at heart. 95% of people who buy a focus se aren't going to notice if the grill comes out a little bit, or if the hood/trunk is unaligned, or even if their interior has a slight rattle. Our issue is that we're mostly all car enthusiasts so we notice small problems 'normal' people don't, and we're driving a $17k economy car with a quick motor and have the expectation of BMW build quality because some people paid $30k for their hatchback.

The Explorer and Mustang in my family are fine (minus MFT issues here and there) but they were never meant to be economy cars. My ST has issues with it's GPS calibration, had to get the rear bumper re-painted because the hatch was so screwed up it rubbed, has the weakest paint I've ever seen on a car (rock chips everywhere!), and has a rattle in the headliner. All these things happened pre-5k miles. Definitely not 'average' for the auto industry.

I'm not going to argue but you can type into google bmw interior rattles and the whole first page is nothing but forum posts about it.

I do however agree that some people think just because they spent 30k it should be like a Mercedes even though it is build on the same line as the 17k focus.

I'm hoping the RS will be a better build with it being assembled in Germany.
I have a 13 with 52K. There was MFT issues that were fixed with update. Had to replace summer tires already. They wore on inside but alignment checks out OK. My issues with car are my hatch that likes to unlatch for no reason and the outrageous turning radius. I have to be careful where I park so I don't get parked into my parking space !! Oh and the darn idle issues. I find that if you stomp on it a bit it helps. Yes and fun too.
Hey what's with dealers using wrong weight oil
I can see bad assembly but you would think delivering dealer would fix that stuff. And if Michigan plant is so bad fire their a$$$$.
Good luck with your issues

OP - let me guess, on the steering column cover, the left 'clip' that faces you when the steering wheel is turned 45 degrees was popped out right?

Ya... had mine replaced twice now because of that. And the rental regular focuses I had all had it popped out too lol. My dealer eventually glued it in place - looks good and OEM.
