I have dark tint and aftermarket tail lights. I still use the same bulb fitting but really need a bulb that is so bright that the military might be called in. Let me know I get this question a lot and need to finally figure this out.

Thanks
Bobby

They say a 35w HID runs cooler than a 55w halogen and these are only 15w. I'm not a lighting expert by any means but I think it would be okay especially since you womt run them long. My big concern and something you might message the OP of that thread about is the warm up time. Some HID lights take a few seconds to warm up to full brightness and color.

I'd prefer LED but if you tried something custom you would be leading the way, not a lot of reference. There's some stuff out there where guys DIY powerful LEDs into halogen flashlights, and aquarium fixtures. I have an 80w custom LED setup in my aquarium and the boards are so small they could fit in the back of the tail light assembly or behind the trunk carpet.

I just ordered this from Diode Dynamics. Haven't received yet.

XP50: Each of the four sides of this bulb contains two 5W-rated chips, and the top is fitted with two more under a projector lens. Housed in an aluminum casing with textured finish for maximum heatsinking properties

XP50: Much brighter than OEM bulbs. These are bright!

I had them on my Veloster and I will be installing them in to my ST tomorrow. Almost forgot to take them out Friday night when I traded in my VT for my wife's Fusion.

They were awesome in my VT. Super bright and DD are good people.

PM me and remind me to post pictures for you.

I purchased the above linked reverse LED's. Here are my before and after pictures. Pictures were taking with my note-tato, I tried to set as many settings as I could to a manual option...Beware of holy glares Batman!
And to answer the question that is bound to come up...Yes, my garage floor is pink...I asked for a deep purple and this was what came out...

I feel it was a worth while upgrade and provides the car with a much more upscale look...Now to just make my blinkers work with switchbacks for ultimate reverse vision.

Here is my solution: http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-...ds/11958-bobby9621-st-build-mistress-sponsored-edgeautosport-87.html#post749764

Presently I am using LED Reverse Light bulbs with projectors and they did enhance the brightness compared to the stock bulbs. However I am still having issues backing up and I am not ready to do the read back up camera/lockpick in my car at this time.

Currently I use:
Jtech 2 x T10 T15 13W High Power 906 912 921 SMD LED Reverse Back up Light Bulb Xenon White Super Bright

Purchasing:
Diode Dynamic XP50 Ford Focus Backup LEDs (pair)
2008-2014 Ford Focus Backup LEDs (pair)
XP50: Each of the four sides of this bulb contains two 5W-rated chips, and the top is fitted with two more under a projector lens. Housed in an aluminum casing with textured finish for maximum heatsinking properties.

I think this is what is missing and hope I get a great temporary fix until I can do the camera in the future. I thought about HIDs, but I believe LEDs are the future.

Bobby, this is what I got back from Michael.

Hello,

Unfortunately we are fully out on these as we did get the wrong batch sent to us from our manufacturer and we did have to send our design back to them to make sure they do have the right design to match! I do apologize for this, but we are hoping within a few weeks to have these back and ready to go.

Why did you choose those, over the jtech?

Installed Diode Dynamics XP50 reverse LED lights.

http://www.focusst.org/forum/showthread.php?p=776344

The beam is better focused and more white and much better than stock. These replaced my cheap LED reverse bulbs from China. I am happy with the outcome. It is hard to still see given my dark tint and tinted taillights, however I am happy with the product. When I install a rear camera down the road these bulbs will be a perfect match due to a more clear and not scattered light output.

Update after 10 months of use:

One of my reverse bulbs no longer functions. The other bulb is very touchy and overheats easily if on longer than 1 minute then stops functioning for about 5 minutes…I only noticed this when replacing them with Diode Dynamics XP50’s today.

Not going to lie, this was kind of expected when buying cheapo Chinese knockoff style bulbs.

Here are some pictures I took during the install, all pictures were taking from my phone using as many manual settings as possible…not all were taken in same lighting conditions, but you will get the gist of it. I should also mention that I cleaned both taillights so one wasn’t covered in more dirt than the other.

My consensus is that both bulbs I used are almost identically bright, at first I couldn’t determine the difference. If I had to pick one over the other in terms of brightness, I would choose the Ebay bulb. I think the different levels of brightness has to do more with the way the bulb sits in the reflector. If you notice the Diode Dynamics bulb is slightly longer, thus it sticks out from the socket a little further and is possibly not as optimal for that reflector.

The Ebay bulb is a 6000k, it seemed to have a slight blue hue to it. I don’t know exactly the “k” value of the Diode Dynamics bulbs, but they didn’t have the same kind of cheap HID kit kind of blue to them.

Only time will tell how the Diode Dynamics hold up; but I’m not worried too much seeing as they have a 3 year warranty, they’re a supporting vendor here, and appear to have great customer service.

I also installed Diode Dynamics XP80 tail and brake lights, replacing the stock bulbs. I have pictures of those as well if anyone would like to see that comparison.

I replaced my factory back-up bulbs with Diode Dynamics XP50 LED bulbs last week. They are waaay brighter than the stock bulbs, and a whiter color, not as yellow. I don't have tinted tail lights (yet), but I do have tinted windows. I can see a marginal improvement looking in the rear view mirror through the window tint, but using the back-up camera, it is leaps and bounds better.
