Damn this seems like a very good upgrade for not a lot of money
If you can find a crashed 5 to rob from you can do this dirt cheap! I couldn't find any in Phoenix area.

I'm working on an idea for Frankenbrake II. This would use a vented 22mm rotor but would in addition of a different bracket (not the 5 ) would need calipers. You'd be looking at a factory upgrade for around $450. In an unrelated question, anyone have access to a 2013 Volvo S60? :big smile:

Word on the street is that the Volvo s80 brakes bolt on the front but they are massive and no one really makes performance pads. This rear setup is more than enough even for heavy track use with the right pad.

Amazing thread. Great job.

Question on the diameter for the rear with the Mazda 5 bracket limits us to 300 or 302mm dia rotors for the v70 2010. What is the max thickness we can run with our calipers on these rotors? I see you have 11mm and 12mm is available and there are also much thicker veined options out there for the v70 that meet all prerequisites if max thickness our calipers can accept is known.

The bracket will only allow the thinner solid disc to pass through. the vented 22mm is not going to fit. I'm not sure what the max allowable is for the caliper but visually it does not look like a 22mm would fit.

Someone should put the parts together and sell this as a bolt-on upgrade kit.
It's really just the brackets. Pick your poison for rotors, StopTech, EBC, Stock, or any other manufacturers that might make a performance V70 rotor. Right now I'm sporting Duralast from Autozone.... Budget rotor for a budget upgrade.

My best friend has a 2013 Volvo S60. What are you wanting?

Great! If he'll let you tinker with it could confirm that it is a slotted rotor, measure the piston diameter, ctc between the bolt hole on the bracket, and ctc bolt hole to slider pin.

It's probably overkill and like Alex said this setup is probably more than adequate but I'm curious if the Volvo S60 calipers and bracket would fit the ST. If so you could run vented 22mm rotors on the rear instead of the 11mm solid.

Ok, not sure I can get that done any time soon, but I will keep it in the back of my mind.

nice worK!

Have you checked any volvo forums? They should be able to tell you.

Kevin the 12mm thick rotors are only $6 more each. Based on the setup I suspect the 12mm would also work or is it really tight and risks rubbing pads w/12mm at that point? The extra mm should net a touch more life out of the rotor, better heat dissipation at the cost of a few grams of rotating mass.

Does the bracket have to come from a specific year of Mazda 5? The volvo rotor is a rear rotor from a V70 2008, but a 2010 will also work?
Same rotor for those years. This set up is for a solid rotor and not the vented. The bracket is pre 2008.5. Use the part number I provided

12mm should fit without issue.

Not a great pic. I can try and get in there later if you need a better one but it looks like it has Maybe 2mm play on either side.
