So I'm looking to upgrade my intercooler and I was curious to know if it matters which one I get. I'm not planning on upgrading the turbo ever.

Welcome to the forum. I urge you search around the forum as just about everything has been covered here a thousand times over.

The factory IC is notoriously bad for heat soak. So it's a good mod regardless if you're planning on going BT or sticking with the stock K03.

I can only comment on the Depo racing 3.5inch, but for $350 shipped, its a great product. I ordered mine on 1/22, had it on 1/26 and installed it same night. Product quality was legit, came with all mounting hardware (except nut hardware for new lower mounting bolts) and I have not had temps over 20 degrees ambient pull after pull.

Pretty sure you're right about that. The Mishimoto is listed at 26.1" x 4.3" x 8.3" and the whoosh is listed as 26" x 4.25" x 8.25"..
They have the same amount of bars and plates and look identical. My guess is Mishimoto doesn't actually manufacture them and whoosh is somehow able to purchase them from whoever does without branding.

ESP has a nice one also for reasonable price. I have a levels that i love, but Nick has since made people in the ST community very unhappy with him becauze of his customer service not his products....his cores are nice, his ability to retuen phone calls and take care of things in a timingly manner isnt umm...above the bar...or even at the bar.

Here's a good dose of "Daily Elitist Opinions" with your host, Duece McCracken.

Well, I like nice fullsize cores with proper facing endtanks that aren't tucked behind the crash bar like a fool designed it. None of the Universal core BS either, with 90 couples and additional crap.

I also prefer the factory mounting locations.

My picks for FMIC are CP-e as top dawg, Whoosh as best budget, and Depot as a disposable FMIC that a kid made. ESP doesnt look bad at all. Garrett is nice, but now you are getting close to CP-e money. Mishimoto has a 4.3" core, which is a great middle ground for a 3.5 versus a 5.5",.

The Mountune isn't a great design, FSwerks isn't a great setup, Depot is super rough fit and finish with **** hardware, Altitude Autoworks is just awkward and may have gone out of business, Cobb is over priced, CXR is ghetto, Levels has the bov flange but everything else about it I just don't like, Vortech is 1k dollar tiny piece of ****, For some reason I just dislike Steeda, Process West is super dumb design, ATP fmic is a poor design/ nice core though, NPBoosted has airguides but seems super cheap, ETS has flimsy mounting tabs , DaVinci performance is some garage made crap for 450, Treadstone TR8 builds are very budget but too close to Depot/Whoosh prices.

That covers the FMIC off the top of my head.

It's apparently the same core, or a dimensional clone. Making it a 4.3" core FMIC at 389 bucks with great fit and finish.

Hence Whoosh, being the top budget in my opinion. They do really nice clean work too. I have their DP in a box next to me, and damn is it nice!!

I literally talked to them. This will be the third time I'm posting it in this thread. Idk why people are having a hard time with this. I went right to Whoosh, and got the answer. No middleman.

Ron Miller from Whoosh, confirmed that the Whoosh FMIC is NOT a Mishi core, its a Mishi CLONE. Hence his pricing.

I love my 5.5 Depo, ill say it doesn't have a stellar finish like any of the expensive options, and the lower mounting tabs are a pita... buttttttt it fits like a glove, never had any issues and she's keeps 98+ ambient Temps in check pull after pull. I'd buy it again. If I had to buy anything else, for whatever reason, it would only be a CPe, as this is the only intercooler that would meet or exceed the depo In everyway.

In before the lock. Is that still a thing? It's getting strangely heated in here.

I have the depo 3.5 It’s been on my car since 2014 with zero issues. My IAT is always with 10° if not lower than ambient temp

I went with cpe core 5in with the intention of upgrading my turbo in the future. It’s a big girl and fills out the front grill perfectly. The lightweight would be a good option if keeping the stock turb. Also, I live in Texas so I need a bigger core to keep my engine cool in the summer months. I run a stage 3 stratified e30 tune.

FSWERKS. Had mine for years and still looks good. I’m getting great number out here in central California. Haven’t had to mess with it. Maybe use aftermarket bolts and nuts where the included brackets mount to the radiator. Other than that. You are set!!!
