How is this turned on??
On the left spoke of the steering wheel, there are control buttons (left, right,up,down arrows and OK). If you look at your instrument cluster display it will probably be on your trip odometer screen showing your avg fuel, etc. Use the left arrow to display the menu beginning with Trip1, Trip2, etc. Use the down arrow to scroll to "Settings". Use the right arrow to enter sub menu. Use the up or down arrow to scroll to "Driver Assist". Use the right arrow to enter sub menu. On ST it should only list "Hill Assist". Use "OK" button to toggle check mark on/off hill assist.

From the manual, How to use Hill Assist:

This feature makes it easier to pull away when the vehicle is on a slope
without the need to use the parking brake. When this feature is active,
the vehicle will remain stationary on the slope for two to three seconds
after you release the brake pedal. This allows you time to move your foot
from the brake to the accelerator pedal. The brakes are released
automatically once the engine has developed sufficient drive to prevent
the vehicle from rolling down the slope. This is an advantage when
pulling away on a slope, (for example from a car park ramp, traffic lights
or when reversing uphill into a parking space).
This feature is activated automatically on any slope that can result in
significant vehicle rollback. This feature will not operate if the parking
brake is activated.
Using Hill Start Assist
Note: If the engine is revved excessively, hill start assist will be
deactivated.
1. Press the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete standstill.
Keep the brake pedal pressed.
2. If the sensors detect that the vehicle is on a slope, the hill start assist
feature will be activated automatically.
3. When you remove your foot from the brake pedal, the vehicle will
remain on the slope without rolling away for approximately two or three
seconds. This hold time will automatically be extended if you are in the
process of driving off.
4. Drive off in the normal manner. The brakes will be released
automatically.

I just want to share my experience as of late. When I would be leaving a stop light, I've been noticing my car seemed to dip in RPMs badly. Normally when I take off, I just let the clutch out smooth and give it almost no gas(trying to conserve fuel). A few times I almost stalled it, which is unlike me since every car I've ever owned has been a manual transmission. After reading this thread, I decided to turn off Hill Assist. Guess what? Problem has completely went away. The car is so much happier now when leaving a stopped position. I won't be turning that feature back on. If some of you guys experience this, TURN OFF HILL ASSIST. You will thank me later.

I went out today and tried hill assist and it doesn't appear to be turned on. Finally looked at my sticker and my ST was built 5/2012 so I 'm wondering if I could be missing features prior to the offical release. Though if I had my choice I would rather not have hill assist w/o the ability to turn on then the other way around.

Edit: just read someone else on another forum with vin 100149 also doesn't have hill assist - so it isn't every one out there, only most of them.
