Getting rid of your Focus ST for a Fiesta RS?

I've been entertaining the idea recently. Why, because the Fiesta RS is potentially a teeny little battle beast raring to consume anything and everything that get's in it's way! Really though, I'd like a more compact little city car to zip around town in. The Focus ST is an EPIC car, but it feels more practical for now. In a couple of years, I won't really need the practicality of the Focus and a Fiesta would likely fit the bill.

Curious who's genuinely considering this move?

No, it's not worth taking another loss to trade a car in this early for something that's basically a training shoe.

At best if it gained less than 200 lbs v.s. the Fiesta ST the power to weight ratio is only marginally better than the Focus ST v.s. being much worse, as the Focus has 252 hp and an unladen curb weight per my invoice of 3223 lbs for 12.79 lb/ hp vs 2742 lb and 197 hp for the Fiesta ST for 13.92 lb/ hp to lug around both unladen. Add in a driver and such at 200 lb each the Focus goes to 13.58 lb 14.93 lb/ hp.

At 230 hp if the weight stayed close to the same it would be a rocket at 11.92 lb/ hp, but as it would need to be beefed up to handle more power more than likely ~200 lb more which would put it to ~3172 lb with a driver and that goes down to 13.79 lb/ hp.

Now it could gain very little weight and add power to stay at the 2942 lb with the driver and end up at 12.79 lb/hp or the same as an empty Focus ST.

TL: DR, no it's not the car I want to live with.

There is no way. Imagine what you could do to the focus with the loss that you would take to upgrade to a less powerful car.

I never thought about power really. I'd have the Fiesta in addition to a few more powerful cars. The Fiesta would be a "Pocket Rocket" to abruptly zip about town in. I believe it would likely have a similar unit to the "Revo-Knuckle" or perhaps even more advanced and a proper, factory installed LSD (or something similar to what VW is using in their new performance pack GTI's).

This is the first I've heard of a Fiesta RS. Details? Or did you mean Fiesta St? If so, the Fiesta sounds like fun, I just don't think it has enough room to be a practical daily driver for me. But if it works for you, go for it, it's your garage, not mine!

I don't think Fiesta RS is a real thing... if you're looking to trade up to another cool Ford just hang on another couple years. It'll be worth the wait.

Hell to da nizzo.....all this RS talk lol

How bout a 3 door - 2.0 fiesta
But no, North America won't be getting any 3doors

I am probably the most qualified person on the forum to weigh in on this topic (former Fiesta Movement agent) and have logged over 10,000 miles in a Fiesta ST on streets, in Europe, in the U.S., on road courses, NASCAR ovals and even drifting. I of course now own a Focus ST, as well.

I would say there is simply no competition when it comes to fun factor between the FiST and FoST - Fiesta wins hands down. It is simply more fun to drive, begs to be abused, tossed, floored and thrown into turns. That car is just plain rowdy. Downside? It is a bit wearing to drive... you certainly are more in tune with the road, so the bumps and road noise can wear you down a bit on long drives.

Conversely, the FoST seems so much more civilized, mature and...well, grown-up. It is without a doubt "nicer," quieter, more spacious, capable of being more loaded with tech and even faster in a straight line - but I honestly miss my FiST when it comes to spirited driving... it just plain did it better IMO.

So, that said, I think a Fiesta RS would be just plain nasty. I mean, I can't even really fathom how much fun that car could be. If it actually comes...especially in 3-door trim, I will almost certainly buy one and keep it as a second car. The FoST is a great DD, but the Fiesta RS would be an absolutely ridiculous weekend/track day/mountain road/fun car and I just can't imagine you could find anything more fun that was anything like it.

I would guess that the Focus RS, would be a much better car than the Fiesta RS. I have driven previous versions of the Focus RS and the Fiesta ST/RS and the nod would be for the Focus RS to be the better car.

No, I'm waiting out for the Focus RS to arrive here in North America. Nothing against the Fiesta ST or the Fiesta RS if it's going to happen, I just need a bit more room and power.

I love that this is a conversation, but I would want the focus RS. I hope jinstall is right... I say that every time I read his posts regarding the focus RS :p

The thing is, to me, the focus ST/RS and fiesta ST/RS are designated daily driver cars that happen to be fun. If i wanted a little fun car, I would want a little 2 door rwd like an mx5, slk, s2k, or brz... Or the 2.3 mustang coming to a country near you. Not a 4 door car.

If the fiesta RS is the 3 door, I would consider it more, but it wouldn't be my second car... Especially to a very similar focus st daily. I wouldn't trade for it either. The focus RS is one of the only cars I would trade my ST for before I finish paying it off if ever.

The focus RS would most certainly be the best combination of fun and practicality of all the aforementioned. If I had to have one car and one car only, the focus ST is the best so far. Just my opinion though.

STenthusiaST, I'm digging that Liquid Gray RS rendition. Still missing my old Focus SES in that color.

Same here, miss my 06 zx4 st liquid grey. It's a great color, wouldn't think twice if if was offered on the RS *dreaming*

My personal opinion is that if both were offered in the USA it would def come down to price and fun factor.

I would def not trade in my ST for either the focus rs or fiesta rs. So if I was to buy a second car "for fun only" I would drive both and then weigh which one of those was the best for what I need it for.

And obviously there is a lot to consider when you buy just a "toy". Power to weight ratio, overall modification ability of the platform, looks, three door vs five door, 1.6 vs 2.0, etc etc etc....

So with just speculation and no concrete plans its hard for me to even begin to put this whole thing into context. Until I hear further I will keep modifying my ST and be very happy that it finally made to our shores.
