Like the title says, I'm running an AWE Resonated Track exhaust on my 2018 ST1. I do not want to lose the amazing sound but I also need to calm it down at start for the sake of my neighbors. Has anyone used a silencer of some sort to keep it quieter on start up? Has anyone had success running some sort of valved exhaust?

Pic unrelated.

Cold start is cold start nothing you do will make a difference with an aftermarket exhaust.

Most any modern car does a few things during cold start to get the car up to temp quicker. From higher revs to changed timing and fueling. All of that contributes to the glorious sounds you hear. My cammed 6.0 v8 with long tube headers and exhaust sounds amazing that first 30sec or so, and it could have been worse with a more choppy cam or no cats…

search you tube for cold start videos and you’ll see the ST is not immune to this, basically every car every make and model.

On other platforms, they can tune out the cold start process. My friend has a '15 m6, they change out the downpipes/exhaust, cold starts would shake their house when starting the car cold in the garage and idling. Had the car tuned and turned off the "cold start," was much more reasonable after that

I currently have the stock exhaust with a catless DP and vac-actuated cutout where the resonator used to be. I like the car being quite 90%+ of the time, and f-boi loud every now and then. It's a fairly cheap option to have both worlds and it keeps my wife happy. That said, there's really no in-between - it's either factory quiet, or obnoxiously loud, and when it's open everything rattles like it's going to break since I'm basically sitting on the cutout
