You can purchase the Touring section from AWE and bolt it in. That will tone it down and still be acoustically tuned to not drone.

 

I did not know they sold that, definitely a little pricier than I was hoping but a contender nonetheless.

 

Cold start is cold start nothing you do will make a difference with an aftermarket exhaust.

Most any modern car does a few things during cold start to get the car up to temp quicker. From higher revs to changed timing and fueling. All of that contributes to the glorious sounds you hear. My cammed 6.0 v8 with long tube headers and exhaust sounds amazing that first 30sec or so, and it could have been worse with a more choppy cam or no cats…

On other platforms, they can tune out the cold start process. My friend has a '15 m6, they change out the downpipes/exhaust, cold starts would shake their house when starting the car cold in the garage and idling. Had the car tuned and turned off the "cold start," was much more reasonable after that

 

FWIW- I had both the touring and track editions of this exhaust. In either form it was way too loud for me. Keep in mind though that I was already running a 3” dp, and that I’m old. With a stock dp, who knows, it might be different.

 

Has anyone had success running some sort of valved exhaust?

I currently have the stock exhaust with a catless DP and vac-actuated cutout where the resonator used to be. I like the car being quite 90%+ of the time, and f-boi loud every now and then. It's a fairly cheap option to have both worlds and it keeps my wife happy. That said, there's really no in-between - it's either factory quiet, or obnoxiously loud, and when it's open everything rattles like it's going to break since I'm basically sitting on the cutout

 

A lot of guys use pool noodles for the cold start issue. I used to do this with my old Evo. Would be a good idea to make some sort of visible flag/marker for you rear camera to pickup so you don't drive away with them inserted.

Got mine back today and the resonated touring version is very nice. Mellow burble - but can’t wait for track day…
