I think the RS airbox is fairly cheap.

 

I've been thinking about going to my Ford dealer to see how much the lid is, if it's available separately.

 

I think you have to buy the whole box for around $50. Just swap the lid though. The thought to dremel yours may be there, but look at how the top of the RS box seals to the hood. It wouldn't be the same (if there's even any benefit to the RS lid).

 

don't be cheap, and just get the whole RS airbox....

best bet, is join the RS forums, and pick one up from a guy who's installed an aftermarket CAI

 

My RS airbox just came in, been on backorder for a month, it was $72 out the door which didn't seem unreasonable. I'd post pics but @Baxter has it handled, nothing new to offer. I tried to get them to get me just the lid but the lid itself doesn't have an independent part number to be able to place an order on FWIW.

 

Mind sharing with us where you got it from? I've seen so many different prices on different sites. Much appreciated.

Missed this the first time around. Thats a great idea! And looks good! That WILL be better and 0 heat from the engine compartment. Thanks, I think this is the rout I will take. And much cheaper too.

 

I figured I could find a rubber seal of some kind that would work at Lowe's.

 

Yeah, I picked up a roll of weatherstrip/rubber tube and gorilla glued it around the holes(s) that i cut out. It's not a top-tier job, but if you spend time on it, I'm sure you can make it look good without spending the $50-$100

This is what happens when you give a guy a Dremel and too much time on his hands. I'll decide later whether to open up the top.

 

i saw another thread on here where someont cut the top open. Also someone else cut off most of the box but left the arch ring that helps hold the filter in place, not needed with a hose clamp like what comes with a cobb or green filter for example.

 

Geez, 130 bucks is ridiculous! You can "Swiss cheese" that lid for free!:smile:

With the RS lid, or any other sealed to the hood blanket lid that generally will not suck in hot air from under the hood. But hacking holes in the stock lid will.

 

All the local dealers in my said the RS box was on backorder. So I contacted Roush and asked if they could sell me just the open box lid with the seal from their CAI kit. Kinda pricey for what it is, but I'm happy with it.

This happened last night. It's not as pretty as the RS box but it should do the same job. (photo rotated on me. :disappointed: )
I started drilling 1/2" holes but that was taking too long, so I broke out the Dremel.

I think if you do get that weatherstripping, clean up those edges, and if you can get those connector pieces a little smaller this will be pretty nice!

 

RS airbox part # is: G1FZ-9600-A I have seen it under 50 bucks on Sunrise Ford parts site.

Is this the whole airbox or just the lid? I'm on the fence about cutting my lid/buying this...I just don't want to do it myself and make it look junky.

 

I figured 50 bucks... Who cares if it if the whole assembly or only the lid. Still better than what I could mod.

So I'm a little confused on this one. What's the point? Doesn't the top of the airbox now just seal up against the hood, in essence closing the airbox right back off? Or am I looking at it wrong?

 

On the RS the seal probably does fit tight against the hood but the seal is horseshoe shaped: open at the front, sealed at the back which directs air into the box.

 

Kid's and their air boxes these days. I don't understand it...HEY GET OFF MY GRASS!

So you cut the top out only to have it seal right back up agains the hood in essence closing it right back off...how is this functional? Seems the only function from this mod is the ability to see the filter with the hood open.

 

Or you could just completely delete the air box.

 

And suck in heat... YAY

I recommend having the full box in the car. It does help funnel in cooler air. Alot will argue that the turbo negates this.
