So, with the big turbos coming out, spark plug upgrades will be following very closely. When increasing the power by that much it is important to move to a slightly colder plug in order to keep cylinder temps down and reduce chances for pre-ignition/detonation.

The factory spark plug for the focus ST is an NGK plug PN: LTR6DI-8. If you break down the part number this is what you get.

LT (Long thread reach plug Tapered seat type 25mm) R (Resistor) 6 (heat range) D (Metal Shell Plating Spec Change) I (Laser Iridium) - 8 (0.8mm or .032")

The heat range for NGK plugs goes from 2 to 11 with 2 being the hottest and 11 being the coldest. This means that there are a couple options to go with for a colder spark plug.

The first is the NGK LTR7IX-11. This plug comes with a gap of 1.1mm or .044" and will require you to regap them to a range of .030" - .032". The IX at the end of the part number stands for High Performance Iridium.

The second option is the Denso ITV22.

I stands for iridium, and the letter T is the Thread Diameter x Hex size (14x16.0). The letter V represents the thread reach of 25mm with tapered seat. The heat range is designated by the number 22. This is equivalent to the NGK 7 and therefore one step colder than stock. The number 20 corresponds to the stock heat range or NGK 6.

We are going to be running the NGK LTR7IX-11's in our car with the GTX2867. We are not sure what gap we are going to run yet but will be experimenting with that a bit to see what works best.

You have to gap them. Check out my previous posts with pics to prove it.
They will misfire.

Can you datalog with the SCR superchips device?

Who is your tuner?

I have my tuner, and intake waiting for this cold snap to end, I use the NGK LTR7IX-11's in my Mustang, and always keep a spare 12 plugs sitting in my tool box, so when I install the new intake will install a set of the plugs. Good to find out both cars use the same plugs

Took out my factory plugs today and replaced them with the denso itv22 gapped at 0.28
The factory plugs looked great with 6,500 miles on them.

Swapped my stock plugs (CFYS12Y2) out for some Brisk Racing RR14YS last night. My stock plugs had 10000 miles on them and they were gapped at .032 all around and were spotless, no carbon or buildup at all. I gapped the Brisks at .030. I haven't had a chance to test them much but right out the gate I noticed a huge improvment in low RPM driving. After swapping the lower and passenger motor mount I noticed a lot of shudder in the sub 2000 rpm range with the stock plugs, not that I spend much time in there, but it's pretty much all gone. I'm very pleased so far, just have to see how they do in all other driving ranges. Also I drove up to the city the other night, 250 mile round trip, and averaged 31.5 MPG for the trip with the stock plugs, so I'm excited to see how these compare.

I just clocked 19K miles today....

I decided to drop in the Denso ITV22's. Before I did I went out and did some datalogging. I noticed my tune was pulling anywhere from .5 to 2.5 degrees of timing with my foot to the floor in various gears.

I took it out after the 20 minute plug change and I noticed it was actually adding timing... Impressive... I can't say its any more responsive or more powerful but the timing logs don't lie. WOW!

My car is a 13 and was built in June of 2013. I pulled out CYFS12Y2 plugs.

I will pop a few out at my next oil change to see what's what, but from what I can tell they look healthy except for the first one closest to the passenger side which had some crust around the porcelain. No signs of pinging or anything... I am running FSWERKS Stage 3 tune with ALL the bolt-ons. I also sometimes run FSWERKS 94 Octane tune depending on whats in the gas tank. And I have run this tune since the car had 300 miles on the clock. I have had Randy@FSWERKS tweak my tune for me a bit with some datalogs back and forth because I added the intake spacer. I highly recommend datalogging and adjusting your tune accordingly.

With the stock plugs I was getting some KR so I switched to the 1 step colder ngks. Still getting pretty much the same amount of timing pulled. Damn crappy cali gas. I tried all the top tier gas stations in my area and they were all pretty much the same results. Wonder if 2 step colder plugs will helped.

We are just happy to help you guys enjoy your experience with your car!

You have an octane problem. The colder plugs are not going to help with that. You could run water/meth injection to give yourself an octane boost. That or an e85 mix if you have access. Cali 91oct gas is a joke :/

Pulling out the amount of timing that is in the tune in the areas it is pulling will work wonders as well, 1 step colder is max I would go PacDawg.

I do not want to take the thread off point but since Edge is the OP, I thought I would express some props where due. I had a set of ITV22 on hand and a set of ITV24 in the car with my FRP tune. I ordered an extra set of ITV24 from Edge as backup. A day later I decided I really wanted 2 of each and called Edge. They said they would change my order. Unfortunately the 4 ITV24 shipped. They sent me a message to keep the 4 ITV4 and were shipping me 2 ITV22 for free. Of course I was not going to keep two free plugs and sent back the extra 2 TV24. My point is they did not have to do this, they were not solicited by me to do it. There is no money to be made by them for selling 4 plugs and giving 2 more away but it appears that is how they do business. Good people, in which I highly recommend.

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread

I had a great ordering experience with Edge Auto Sport as well when getting spark plugs. Very informative and easy to do work with through email or PM.
