Lots of trouble reinstalling drivers cv axle

The CV axle literally fell out while I was driving it in my ST. I guess that’s what 190k miles does to this poor car. But, i’m reinstalling the axle, and I can’t get it to go all the way in. It feels like it goes about half way in before stopping completely, even after being repeatedly pounded with a rubber mallet. I’ve took it out and fiddled with it over 20 times, I just can’t get it to go in. Part number

I’ve read a couple of articles about similar experiences but none of them had good solid answers in them.

if i recall, the 'lock ring' thats on the end of the axle spline that goes into the transmission, should be at the 12 o'clock position (the flat spot). I read that in a Haynes or something a while back after having issues getting my driver side axle back in after an engine swap. Dont recall how I got it to go in eventually, i think i happened to rotate it to the right spot. But try making sure that ring is orientated properly

Okay, i’ll put a little bit more force into it. I’m also read that it helps to put it at 12 o clock, so i’ve been doing that. I’m kind of afraid to just jam it in there hard because if it’s not lined up on the splines, it’s just banging against the splines each time.

Alright. I’m here with a solution. For some reason, the cup part of the axle was hitting the frame where the control arm bushings are at, so I had to take a transmission mount bolt off and just barley jack the transmission up to slide the axle in there. That doesn’t make any since. Has anybody else had this issue?

edit: well, i’ve found why the transmission was so low. I went to start the car and I heard a horrible screeching sound under the hood. I quickly turned the car off and found this. The screeching noise was the alternator pulley scraping against the body and flinging sparks. This is ridiculous. I’m assuming this is some sort of motor mount failure?

Makes sense why it wasn't going in with the drivetrain sitting like that. The factory trans mount most likely failed where it ripped threads from the transmission bracket that bolts to the top of the trans.

If you are in need of a great aftermarket mount where that won't happen... Focus ST/RS Transmission MountBlack / Red / Street

How does this even happen? And is it just coincidence it happened at the same time th CV axle went out?

Get yourself a Powerflex insert for the mount before you put it back in!
