I don't know anything about this specific topic, and I usually do not comment on topics where I do not have anything constructive to add, but just curious about the expectations here. I think the unit looks fantastic, and truly I wish a high quality device of this type could be purchased at this price point, but I would expect some lack of functionality, inconsistencies, or other anomalies when purching any no name brand electronic device from eBay.

I truly hope you get it to work properly, and if you can show that that unit is of decent quality and is worth the effort I bet there will be a lot of interest from other Focus owners.

Best of luck!

Thanks for chiming in! My expectations are high. Even at this price point, todays tech is pretty good, and cheap these days. First, I agree, it looks great. Second, it functions mostly as expected. Third, it sounds much better than the original stereo. The steering wheel controls not working is annoying, especially when they work fine with some and don’t with others. The buttons on the bottom should function, especially the power button. Overall the installation was very easy, and it’s great to have a current modern head unit.

Well- the only person who has to like it is you- but I'm interested to see if it turns out to be a good design. I have not looked, but I wonder if anyone else (that is to say- a reputable manufacturer that offers a warranty and pre and post sales / technical support) manufactures something similar. I've been down the road of buying relatively inexpensive imported things in the past, and the instances where my expectations have been met are few, so that is why I am skeptical about these types of things. I'm not some rich guy who just buys expensive things, and I do understand that those name brand devices may be manufactured alongside of generic equivalents in the same facility- but it's possible that even in your own line of work- where you see the intricacies of the product or service that you provide- that you get what you pay for.

I totally agree, and time will tell how well it’s made. I will attempt to make the “Key 1” wire mod mentioned in the screen grab I posted earlier to get the swc working. If I get that working, I’ll be pretty happy. I can live with the bottom buttons not working, but it would be nice if they did.

I read a few reviews on Amazon that appear to be for this same unit, and they are more positive than negative. I think the steering wheel controls require a CAN bus connection... Are you sure the one supplied is plugged in and working? The community thanks you for being the guinea pig for this product!

Thanks, Yes, it came with the CAN bus, and everything is plugged in. Each plug, is a different size, and keyed so it’s impossible to plug something incorrectly. Pretty much idiot proof, almost! LOL!

A couple weeks in now, and more questions.

So far, it seems Apple CarPlay takes over the head unit when in use. Ideally, I want to have the screen show the WAZE map for my iPhone while listening to the radio. This doesn’t happen. When WAZE is on, and I touch the radio button, the radio comes on for maybe 5 seconds, then switches back to CarPlay and the map, no radio. My wife’s radio will show the WAZE map while we listen to the radio, podcasts, music. Maybe I’m not doing something right? Any thoughts on how to have the unit work the way I want?
Thanks and Cheers!

Todays update. I managed to download WAZE onto the head unit, and it works just ok. Sometimes perfectly, sometimes only part of the map shows, and it had trouble finding my saved route home. I do have the GPS antenna under the dash sort of on top of the unit, maybe I need to move it so it’s on the dash in the corner at the windshield base. Bluetooth is spotty as well. The transmitter I bought for my iPod worked great initially! Then the transmitter wouldn’t connect, then later the next time I started the car it connected right away. I did turn the transmitter on first though before starting the car. But when in Bluetooth mode, I couldn’t get to the apps screen to start WAZE. So, it’s still seems a bit buggy, or I’ve got to learn sequencing apps at startup. Which really, I shouldn’t have to even think about.

ok, if you have sync2 probably you have to cut the key1 wire and join it with another wire but you have to tell me which sync do you have and which radio did you buy.
For carplay, try to change usb cable
Hey bud I can't get my 2014 focus st3 to work right it powers up and no sound no hazards no steering wheel controls , I have sync 2 no reverse camera just navigation om factory

So sorry for my delayed response. MarcusFoFo has more experience with the Sync2-3 systems then I do. He may be able to address the issues your having with your head unit, and hopefully you have them sorted out by now.

As of now, the unit has worked fairly well, still haven’t gotten to playing with splicing the wires mentioned earlier to get the steering wheel buttons to function. I’ll do this in the spring when it warms up as well as route the GPS antenna to the base of the windshield for better reception. The little Bluetooth transmitter I bought for my iPod is working well, just need to hold the button down, then tap the Bluetooth app music icon, tap any other icon, then the music icon again and it’s fine, why I sometimes have to do this, I have no idea. The two features I wish it had are a physical volume knob, and the on-off power button worked.

Hey, I’ve just installed one of these. The plug that comes out of the can decoder plug that into the power buttons etc at bottom, then go into steering wheel controls and hit “start” press power on the screen then the button and it’ll go green or give u a tick, do it with all the buttons then hit “end” and it’s done. The steering wheel controls I’ve got the skip and back and volume but no voice control 😑 any tips save me time trying to work it out. Paul Sorry I’m new here , first post 😂

The buttons , did u get them working ? The lock, power navi buttons, go to steering wheel controls, the “start” press the corresponding function on the screen then press button for that, it’ll give u a tick or a green box then hit end, it’ll all be programmed, just done mine tonight but I don’t have the voice button working yet, I’ve a UK PFL st250 .

Hey Paul!
Thanks for these tips! Possible to take a couple pics showing the screen and what I should be seeing?
Cheers!

Did you ever get this fixed?

I found I was having issues too because the CANBUS decoder box settings weren't set properly in the unit.

I made some settings changes to ensure it matched my car and the unit that was sent and all my problems went away (I just haven't been able to find the backup camera cable).

I never used SW1 or SW2 wires and mine came with a pre-built harness.

It's been working great for about eight months now.

Hey I completely forgot about this tbh,
I still actually haven’t got the voice control working and something tells me one or two daft things. What settings did u change in the menu or was it full on recoding the canbox? Yeah I didn’t use them either if I remember correct and I had a pre built harness also. The rear view cam cable was randomly on another plug with a trigger wire .

Not yet. I’ll dive back in in the spring when it warms up some.
Thanks for checking!

Appreciate your offer to help Marcus!
So as you see, my 2014 had the base radio. Everything worked fine. With the new unit the steering wheel controls are the one issue, and the second is Apple CarPlay. This morning it was ok for maybe 15-20 minutes, then froze. Could not open the APPS button, no response, to try and see if I could get CarPlay to work again. I switched to ratio and that was fine, tried the APP button again still frozen. Currently the only way to turn off the unit is when I shut off the motor and open the door. None of the buttons on the bottom work, only flashers and door locks. Overall I like the unit, it sounds good, but hate these other issues. So any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated. BTW, the screen grab I posted earlier regarding the Key 1 wire mod, does that look correct?
Cheers, Glenn
Might be a little late, but I got mine working. Does yours have 4 loose wires coming out from the back of the row of buttons? (Illum, key1, key2, ground)? I had to ground the ground to another black wire, the key1 and 2 wires I spliced into the 2 loose wires near the top row of plugins and illumination wire spliced into an ignition power wire (the red one from the power harness)
