Has anyone had THIS issue? (Modules are not communicating)

Hey all. I have a 14 ST and almost 2 weeks ago my car died coming to a light. it restarted promptly but the cluster, mft, hvac, windows, and keyfob stopped functioning as they should. i had to hold the fob up to the ignition to get it to start.

fast forward, i am able to pull my unleashed tune off the car. the x4 flashes the car successfully. i can start the car with no cluster et al a few more times. I had a final to take that day so i left the battery disconnected for a few hours. Car would not start after reconnecting the battery.

Had it towed to ford and they refused to work on it under warranty due to the modified harness for the stereo.

So, instead of paying $3200 for them to unnecessarily replace my harness to continue work, I payed their diag fee and towed the car home. They removed a dealer-installed immobilizer alarm to what I assume was the fullest (they only removed and returned to stock the BCM wiring - what I believe is an hs can wire (solid white wire on the top left c2280 plug) and a few other misc (power, starter, DRL). They were returned 'to factory specs' presumably, but without my consent. The car completely died on their lot, so I put a charger on it and I'm able to get the car to accessory. the dealership also said they replaced a few fuses in the bcm, so all of the interior functions that previously did not work did. cluster, hvac, sync, etc.

When I turn the car on (it will not start. ALSO, I plugged in my X4 to pull codes and it cannot communicate with the pcm.) it flashes Engine Fault Service Soon / Hill Start disabled / Engine ON / etc etc.

I pulled up a Ford Service Manual and ran minimal diagnosis on the module communication network. I was pulling a high ohm rating (2x what it acceptable. i was reading 118 ohms when i should be reading 57-66). I cannot get to the pcm currently but I pulled the bcm harness and tested the hscan wires on there and got acceptable ohm measurements of <3 ohms, so I ruled out the bcm.

Thank you for anyone who can offer any headway on what I should check next.

When you say you have modified the stereo cable, what is modified?

Also in the US they can not deny warranty unless they can prove that part has caused the issue, so I'd call them to come get the car and give your money back until they prove your modifications have caused said issue.

Sooo, were all the fuses they replaced blown? And we don't have DRL's...

More information needed brosef, and pics would greatly help.

I think I would start by removing your stereo modifications for now and seeing where that gets you.

From an electronics stand point (what they told me) anything that was modified would need to be returned to stock for 'proper diagnosis'. since the only way to return the back half of the car to stock is a full wiring harness replacement, it's out of the question.

Now I'm looking for some actual help on what wires to check out or if anyone has come across a similar issue.

Also. I have an ST3 and there are DRL's - they just necessarily aren't activated all the time. There is a wire that specifically goes to it, and it signals the led eyebrows, amber corner lights, and the rear running lights.

Issue fixed. Turned out to be something additional in the alarm.

Do you know what you did to the alarm? I’m have the same faults pop up and the (no connection) to pcm when I connect a maxi scanner to it. Although I can read modules like bcm and ipc but not the pcm. Car ran fine 3 days ago but last night I went to go give her a start and all this happened. I don’t know where I would diagnose first for this issue. Maybe a power supply to the ecu ?

yea I did all of that. It’s a 2014, 130k miles. Completely stock other than a bov. But that thread you sent me is exactly what’s going on but even if I press firmly on that connector nothing happens. I have continuity in all of the wires that go in positive and negative terminal. Mega fuses are good. Can ran fine 3 nights ago so I’m not sure. I can test whatever you need me to I’m pretty good at wiring honestly. But this one is getting me

How are your grounds?

Some 2014 cars had the wiring harness recall. If yours did then you may have to refresh all of your splices.

All of my grounds look and test good. My tranny to rail ground could use a cleaning maybe but the others look fine. I also tested them by placing my DMM on my negative terminal chassis bolt and then tested those grounds and continuity hit on every one. I may have to check the splices but if I get continuity than what would that mean? Also when I hook the scanner no response from the pcm, rcm, and a few other modules. The ecu is new and was replaced and coded a month ago. Haven’t had issues after. I’m gonna check the wiring but I also bought a new fuse box main harness. I’ve been doing so much testing haha I’m not sure what else to look at. If that new harness doesn’t work than I’m really in a world of hurt hahahaa.
