Lmao... Yea same here. Tried it out, was better, went to put the sucker back in and the plastic bit in the middle snapped. ops.

Be careful when you put it back in.

Curious why you were re-installing it if it was better without.

Did you depress the clutch pedal fully when you were installing? Also note you have to put the left side in first at an angle, then the right side slots in.
Ya I did, I thought I gotten it in and let the clutch pop back out. Forgot how springy the clutch was and let it out way too fast and snapped it. Looks like ill be running the "no spring" setup until I replace that... Ill post if I run into any issues

This is one free mod that's not turning out so good for people.

Don't get me wrong I love the feel of the clutch pedal without that spring. And I'm glad mine isn't sagging but in case of any issues I wanted to keep it in one piece but it broke when I was trying to put it back in
I love the feel of 30 pounds of boost..... But it wouldn't be the most reliable thing to do to my ST... Lol

IDK about that. I think its way easier to gauge the engagement of the clutch now. Maybe it requires a bit more force, but this is a performance car, not a toyota Echo.

Granted, everyone is observing some play in the pedal's top end of travel and in some cases a "sag" in the pedals location when the car isn't running. However, I haven't heard about any instances of actual adverse effects from removing the spring. It is a bit disconcerting, but in all likelihood, the spring was added by Ford's ergonomic group to make sure the pedal felt the way the typical customer expected/wanted it to.

I'm a bit worried about potential clutch slippage while driving or even disengaging completely when its parked and the clutch master cylinder isn't exerting pressure. But, I'd be interested to hear some hard facts about what the purpose of the spring is other than what I speculate is a late in the design phase, band-aide for a design flaw.

im not arguing really anything you said.... it may be easier to feel the engagement. But thats not saying it wont have adverse effects long term....

as you said, in all likelyhood, it was put there for ergonomic reasons... however without proof and further facts around this spring I choose not to yank out something from my $32k car that no one has a definitive answer on what it really is.

being "worried about clutch slippage or even disengaging completely when its parked" is reason enough for me NOT to try this mod. I bought my car for reliability. if I wanted to worry about it making it to work I wouldve kept driving my 275,000 miles 91 chevy c1500 as my DD. You said so yourself, "I'd be interested to hear some hard facts about what the purpose of the spring is" that is a very educated statement.... one that I would assume is backed up by a man that decided to keep it rather than see what happens. there have been a lot of people who have drank the koolaid on this mod without any real research and i just dont understand. Id someone said dropping a rock in the turbo would loosen it up and make it spin faster, there would be people that would jump right in..LOL (i know, i know, the turbo analogy is a stretch but you get what im saying)

My pedal is sagging as well but only notice it in the mornings when I first get in. This troubled me at first but now I pull the pedal up with the top of my foot when I first get in and its good to go the rest of the day. I was going to put the assist piece back in because of this but I subconsciously pulled it up (thanks to my Fox Body days) and its great. I keep the piece just in case but otherwise the feel is much better without it.

Modding isnt for everyone!

Its an assist spring. Most if not every clutch pedal car has one. The spring in my 77 F100 broke in half shifting one day and fell on the floor. I never replaced it but should have because the pedal was alot harder to push after that and wore my knee out. There is one in my 66 Mustang that makes an ungodly racket whenever I shift but rather than pull it out I put some bushings on the ends of it. On a car with a super light clutch (hydraulic esp) the assisnt spring isnt really that important altho it can be annoying to hold the clutch now in traffic so I find myself in neutral and pressure off the pedal alot now. Im with you and agree with your logic on pulling parts off a $32K car but anyone who knows cars well enough can figure out that a little plastic piece holding a spring to the pedal isnt going to hurt anything in the long run. Do you still have your sound symposer and grill shutters? Same people who figured out to delete those came up with this mod...normal car guys!

That said if they start blowing up left and right because of any of these "free mods" I still have all the parts around to put back on immediately (nothing wrong with covering you ass right???) LOL
