Converting ST to Automatic Transmission

I could use 2 hands on the wheels with all the torque steer in my 2013 Focus ST!!! :haha::haha::wink::wink:

Does anyone know if a 6 speed Auto Trans from a 2013 Escape S FWD 2.5L 4 Cyl will bolt up?

When I run the part number it says its good for a 2.0L mid-range Ecoboost!? Will it handle the power of an ST?? Will I need to switch the ECU or will it just bolt up!?

My inspiration comes from my buddy that just installed an auto in his 900hp TT Corvette.  Shifts like a machine!!! Totally unreal!! Much quicker than the 6 speed manual he replaced. Both hands on the wheel for performance driving or mytouch, cell phone etc

Think 2015 Challenger Hellcat 707HP with 8 speed automatic!! It's the future!!! You really think a human is going to outshift a computer!? :popped out: :popped out: :popped out:

The automatic might be faster in a 700 hp drag car but the manuals are still more efficient unless we are talking to torque converter DCT or something. And the manual is more fun and worth learning to drive. And putting an automatic in an ST isn't a good idea. As another post said just buy a different car if one wants an automatic.

Actually, DCTs are superior to us, there's no denying it, though I am not sure that they're better at selecting gears. Traditional automatics, even with modern fast-lockup torque converters (mostly for fuel economy) are no match for a decent/skilled manual driver...

I just happen to like the control and experience of rowing my own. I would be an unhappy camper if I had to DD an auto for a long time, even if it was pretty fast.

I see the OP's point, BUT why take out all the fun in manual? Not worth the money and labor I think. Rather should consider spending the money on an AP and FMIC. I mean you'll only get torque steer in the beginning, or just hold on a little tighter, and you'll be golden.

The guy did not ask what is your opinion of changing to an automatic, he asked if escape automatic swap it was possible. It is his car and he should make the way he wants it.

Hiding behind, "he posted on the internet and should expect this" is a cowards way of justifying poor behavior.

OP,
I think think this can be done, it will not be easy or cheap. To much electronics have to change.

My response after reading the OP's post:

Prefer the control of a manual, especially when going down some of the local canyon roads and engine braking instead of actually braking. My brakes would have been on fire, literally, by the end of Tuna Canyon a couple of times already if I were in an auto. NO THANKS! Different strokes for different folks, if you figure it out and have the money, go for it.

We have this discussion occasionally on the Viper boards if someone has a medical reason why they can't depress the clutch... And it has been done and it's full custom and very expensive. In those, very rare cases I get it and to the OP if that's the reasoning I apologize.

But if the TT Corvette is the whole reason then why wouldn't you start with something that comes with an auto in the first place? The new WRX has an auto option.

As for the Hellcat, I know a guy who bought it with the 8 speed auto. We don't talk anymore.

Tt corvette is a drag car right? You don't see too many road course guys getting the autos. You picked the wrong car to auto swap.

I didn't think you could get the Hellcat with a stick.

I personally would love a paddle shifting automatic transmission that performed like the sequential gear boxes in F1 cars (or older spec WRC cars). You get all the benefits of the down shift and you keep both hands on the wheel the whole time. Torque steer or not, the best place for your hands when driving is on the wheel. Having said that, a WRC sequential gearbox was $250k last I looked.
