Can someone have a look at my log and give some feedback?

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone could have a look at my datalog below and give me some feedback on how it looks?

I can see that there are no negative corrections, and it seems to be adding timing quite comfortably, which is obviously good news for the custom tune coming soon.

What I am wondering about is the charge temps. They're measured in C, and I know most of you measure in F, so that may cause a bit of a problem, but I'm just looking for some feedback on them, as they look pretty high to me.

Thanks

Is that an aftermarket intercooler? Looks like a 45F degree rise, which is higher than I would expect for aftermarket.

Yes it is. That's what I thought..

Ok, looking through other logs on here, it definitely doesn't seem right. I don't know if it's due to the redesigned front bumper not allowing enough airflow or whether it's down to the intercooler itself.

I do have another intercooler being developed on my car soon, so I'll get some logs up with that on to see what's what.

The rate of increase of charge air temp is pretty low until ~4,500 rpm; after that the charge air temp starts increasing much faster. At about the same time, load, which was well above 2 at lower rpms, settles down at a hair above 2 and then is lowered during the rest of the pull.

Your sig says you are running a Panda custom tune, so I'd talk to Matt for sure.

But, one interpretation of the numbers could be that your intercooler was doing a good job up to about 4K rpm and then it became heat soaked. Shortly thereafter the tune started dialing things back based on the higher charge air temps.

If the pull was on a dyno, I'd speculate there was insufficient cooling airflow provided at the front of the car.

Hope that helps,
Mark

It's not actually custom tuned yet, but that's all paid for and ready to go. It's running Cobb Stage 3 OTS at the minute. The pull was on the road, not a dyno. I'm concerned it may be the new design of the '15 bumper.

I'll see if the new FMIC makes any difference.

It might also be that your Revo intake is scooping up a lot of hot engine bay air from the unit's pictures: Ford Focus ST 250 Air Filter Intake | REVO, Race Bred Adrenaline. I haven't seen a '15 yet in person so I can't say, but if you can adjust your front hood stops to actually open up the gap between the forward edge of the hood and the top of the bumper cover, that will help get more cold air in the top of the engine bay at speed.

I love the sounds our cars make with a Green or other open air filter, but for coolest charge air temps a closed-end filter in an enclosed airbox feeding a low-restriction CAI and fed by a snorkel (FRPP or other) is the way to go in my experience.

Hope that helps,
Mark

For reference, here is a pull I did this morning. 70F ambient temps, Steeda fmic and green filter with airbox lid removed.

This is a log from earlier with the stock fmic, green filter with lid on and ambient temps in the low 50's.

One thing to note. When I installed the fmic I removed the AGS and the upper and lower plastic/rubber shrouds. I noticed that my intake temps did seem lower than before even with the lid removed. As LMstone510 said, in traffic it will heat up, but moving at any decent speed mine tend to stay close to ambient. Granted it is not summer heat yet, but something that might be worth mentioning.

I didn't look at the bottom log, but the top log shows the kind of slight increase in charge air temp one would expect to see with an aftermarket FMIC. A few degrees and that's that.

Did another couple of pulls just now, and my intake air temp does rise a fair amount, so that'll be the first thing to be swapped out. The new intercooler should be going on in the coming weeks, so I'll throw another couple of logs up then too.
