Boomba Racing Weighted Shift Knob - Review

So I was home from work today and just got my round shift knob in the mail (along with the shifter bushings, but that will be a review for later) and thought I'd write a review. First off, I wanted to compare it to the Steeda shift knob that a lot of people picked up. I ended up cancelling my order with them but they told me to keep the knob so I can do a little apples to apples.

First off, the packaging was pretty basic. Wrapped in bubble wrap in a small white box, nothing fancy but did the trick. Next I noticed was the finish. Being that it's delrin, it had a bit of a "rougher" feel to it than the black anodized finish of the Steeda, but I think I am going to like that a lot more. The anodized finish is nice and smooth, but it did have a machined ST logo that actually felt a little sharp. Don't know if it will wear down over time, but I would assume it would. As for the delrin finish, it felt like it had better "traction" without being rough and I think it should wear down a little bit with wear and end up being super smooth.

Next was weight. I have a digital reloading scale, but the load of the knobs was outside of it's range of sensitivity, so I put the Steeda knob on there first and set that as my zero mark. I then put the boomba knob on there and came in at 25g heavier, which was a bonus.

The last part is the fitment. It threaded on great and was able to tighten it down pretty good onto the shifter lever as I knew both sides, the male and female threads, were metal and wouldn't strip out with a little force. It's also nice that there wasn't a logo on top to make sure it was straight, just could tighten it down all the way and it sits where it needs to. The height on it is great with the lockout, works just as it's supposed to I think, but I've been having a slight issue with my lockout over the last day or two after I put in the Breedt short shifter so I would attribute any lockout issues I have to the plate at this point and not the knob. The lockout ring tucks into the knob really nicely. The diameter of the ball is pretty ideal as well. I have bigger hands, but I don't know if I would want to adjust the size any larger. It just feels really good as is. Here's a couple shots of it installed:

I will be doing some driving with it tonight and tomorrow so I will write back up with any additional comments on that. Overall, I'm super happy with the weight, I like the feel of the ball shape (never had an aftermarket shift knob of this shape), and really excited about avoiding the heat/cold issues of all metal knobs. If you're on the fence, I say go for it! Especially if the cost and hot/cold issues of the other items on the market have caused you to hold back. This really seems to be the best of all worlds. Great job Boomba!

I didn't know this was even out...haven't been on the forum in a while. These straight days are kicking my ass.

They just got them in on Friday from the laser engraver. I was ordering something else from them and got them to include the knob with my order before it was sent out.

Driving into work today was great! It's hard to describe, but it just feels "right" in the hand. Also, was about 42deg this morning when I left for work, maybe 50 in the garage. I didn't even notice the temperature of the knob where if it was fully metal, my hand would be pretty cold through the first few stop signs until I had done enough shifting.
