I don’t need one right now I’m just curious that if I ever needed help with one would I be able to ask internet strangers for assistances with a large task as such. I live in out in Missouri to answer your question though

Engine changes are pretty much, very similar, label everything, take plenty of pictures, you won’t go far wrong, it’s reasonably straightforward, especially if you’ve done a swap before on a fwd car.

 

There have been a few connections made here on the forums lending a helping hand, @Duece McCracken has helped out numerous people over the years. It's just finding that stroke of luck that a person happens to be within a reasonable distance of you. In duece's case, there are a lot of people on here that live in east PA/Jersey. Whereas some people on here might be the only regular member that's in their state, so they'd have a hard time finding a fellow member to get assistance.

 

If you want to pay for my flights and accommodation, I’d happily come over to help. 😁

There are these places called repair shops. If you pay them money, they will swap engines for you. For right around $1000 in many cases (plus the cost of parts...).

If you’re being genuine, that’s very kind and personable to throw down a stack to fly an expert stranger out to fix your car.

PokerRun388 was an old forum troll who had a way with words. Often made bold claims about how money was nothing to him.

 

I am very fortunate to live about 40 minutes from DMC. A prince of a man, who knows these cars inside and out, and does meticulous work. If I have an issue with my Focus ST that I cannot handle myself- he's my first call. Most of the pros here are far better than dealership mechanics with respect to these cars.

 

I understand living in a small town and not feeling like there's anyone in a reasonable driving distance that will do a good job fixing your car, especially when less common.

And better paying $ for a traveling mechanic than 2-3+ times for inferior work at the average Ford dealer.

 

If I have to pay a stack to bring someone out to help me with a hell of a fun project and some experience with an engine swap I’d call that worth every bit of my money. Money is definitely valuable to me but the experience and memories are worth more.

 

I agree with this 100%. I'd rather do a job myself or with an experienced hired hand than drop something off and pick it up. Most here are interested in knowing how their cars work and performing/participating in repairs and maintenance is valuable and rewarding in many ways.

My neighbors all go to the local dealerships for oil changes. In the time they go there, wait an hour or more (while getting upsold other services) and pay the bill, I'm long done and I know the job was done right.

I read this opinion years ago on another forum that stuck with me: it feels bad to pay another man to do your work.

 

I live out in Clay County here in the MO, don't know **** about swapping motors in these things. I'd love to learn and help with you big dawg, but I'm currently on medical restrictions due to missouri law preventing me from driving.

 

If someone had been cool with me on the forum and were local, hell yea I'd jump in and help them out.
Unfortunately for that unlucky soul, I'm not good with much but a hammer and vice grips, but I'm glad to hold the flashlight and and provide monkey muscle. It's always enjoyable making new friends.

 

I was on a forum a few years ago with a different vehicle where we maintained a map of members. It was used to locate members that were willing to give assistance when someone was in need, and a few times it was used to organize meetups for social gatherings and marketplace transactions. If its something that we might want to implement here, I'm fairly sure the map was created by the admins using google maps.
