Anyone installed a remote starter??

Has anyone in this community installed a remote starter in their ST? I realize we all drive a manual and the risk installing a remote starter creates. Just gotta make certain to leave the car in neutral. It's getting cold here in NY and I'm sick of running outside 10 minutes before I leave the house to start my car.

This has been covered and highly discouraged. You're probably not going to get too many here that will discuss it because of potential liability issues. Whatever you do please be safe.

Yea I had a feeling it would be frowned upon. I had a buddy back in the day put one on his manual car and one morning he forgot to take it out of gear and hopped it right thru his garage door 🙄 So ya maybe I should just bundle up and run out to give it a start. Idk 🤷

If you live in a location that will allow (non-city) you can install a block heater.

This wasn't an option for the Focus 2.0 but it is for the Fusion 2.0 and Ford Lincoln vehicles sold in the Northern states as an option.

This is my next project before the weather gets too ridiculous.

At least for early models, this was standard equipment for the Canadian ST's. I dont recall if it was an option for cold US states

I suppose it might be more likely with rear drum brakes, but has anyone had their emergency brakes freeze up when set?

I remember this used to happen to some cars when it got really cold and wet/snowy when fronts came through. This necessitated parking if gear with brakes off if you wanted to move before things thawed out. So remote start wouldn't be that useful.

There is a "puffer" law in Colorado, where it is illegal to leave a car running un-attended unless it is equipped with remote start! Not sure how often this is enforced though.

I installed an aftermarket remote start on my MT vehicle in highschool and I remember there was a procedure where you had to leave the car running (neutral + parking brake), exit the vehicle, lock the doors and then turn off the engine via remote. This keeps you from trying to crank it over in gear the next morning.... If you don't follow that procedure when exiting, you are denied the remote start.

However still, splicing aftermarket systems into factory wiring makes me nervous about reliability issues. There could be no truth to that though.
