I know it's a stick shift. but has anyone added remote start? i haven't looked at adding this to a stick in a long time. back in the day we just bought a neutral safety switch and were good. is it still the same?

Very soon an Android app will be released that allows remote start over bluetooth, requires an OBDlink MX scantool though.

I run a compustar 901. Works great, the idatatlink bypass module is i believe still the only one that works for an ST.

Remote start??? wtf is wrong with this picture??? U do know this is a CAR and not some lazy mans/womens suburban. This is a real car that should be drivin by real people, Back up camera???? ARE YOU NEW HERE? come on ppl if you want something like this buy a rich mans vehicle with all the bells and whistles.

my old systems worked kind of like that. You tap the brake to enable the remote start computer, then turn the key to off but the car stayed running. Once you get out and close the door, the car shut off.

If you opened a door without remote starting, it would disable the system. This is to ensure there was no way to leave the car in gear.

I just have a issue with lazyness, I live in kansas where stuff gets coaded in freezing rain here folks, as well as snow. This may be th esoldier in me saying this but, get up earlier and do what you need to do with your car, its NOT hard, stop being lazy take care of your car and be super duper happy.
Rant over, time to move on
If the shoe fits wear it!

laziness? whatever man. i'm up at 4:45 am getting ready. then the kid is up at 5:30 so we can squeeze in 30 minutes of Chest Physio therapy before we leave the house at 6:15. in that time I also have to re-sanitize her equipment, pack up her vest so we can take it with us (size of a computer plus hoses, vest, etc. it's a $14,000 machine so care has to be taken), as well as make sure i've got everything a 2.5 year old needs... oh and get all the meds situated out of the fridge plus get her morning meds into her.

ya i'm just lazy. *rolls eyes* remote start is the 1 convenience i'd like to have on these mornings.

park in a garage!!!
it's already full. the jeeps live in there. Right now i've got a spot open because i put the TJ in cold storage. But there's still days when my car ends up outside.

I also like this option, BECAUSE...wait for it.....RACECAR!!!
haha!

2k2wranglerx, what they're all trying to tell you is, they know more about your living situation than you do, and you don't need to spend $500 on a remote starter for your race car (with navigation, air conditioning, cruise control, heated seats, and satellite radio). What you /should/ do, is buy a new house with a larger garage, because everyone knows that going through financing a new house and moving your family is the more efficient solution in cases like this.

:haha:

In an effort to be helpful and not further derail this thread... here's the required iDataLink module for the ST:

this is a general statement!!!

buying a house that is suitable for your family should be a common sense move. Buying a house with enough bedrooms, bathrooms, storage space, large enough kitchen/dining room, GARAGE, lot size is common sense. If you buy a house with 2 bedrooms but you have three kids, then you/people messed up. If you buy a house with a one car garage and you have 4 cars, then you/people messed up. COMMON SENSE! if you cant afford the bigger house and you keep expanding your family and amount of cars then you/people may be making improper life decisions.

So buying a new house and making your garage bigger are acceptable solutions to not spending the money for a remote start? Thats just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. How about this. Its a convenience. If people want it and can afford it why not get it if it makes your life easier. You dont need custom wheels. You didnt need a turbocharged car. You wanted it. So you bought it. Do you own a dishwasher? Then your lazy wash it by hand you bum.Air tools? Man up and use your own power. Lawn mower? Why youve got scissors go do it that way. Own a power saw or drill? You could do it with a hand saw cheaper. Its a convenience just like tons of things you all use every day.

My point was they were complaining about ice on their windshield, right?! if he had a plan to park it inside he would not be complaining about the ice on his windshield.

I seriously cant stand people who try to CRAM their opinion down peoples throats like its gospel. These guys are like jahovas witnesses banging on my door for the 5th time. As if constantly bothering me is going to change my opinion. Why are other people so concerned with what others do. He asked if he could get one and how. He never asked anyones opinion on the subject of if he should get it or not.

I care about what other humans do because It affects me. I have to read about people crying because they have ice on their windows. either deal with the ice or plan accordingly. It will be great it someone who has a stick drives his car thru his house because of the autostart. :haha:

Not just a ford focus....its a focus ST! BOOM!
Not super hardcore, just core enough to go outside and take are of business. Nothing wrong being uncomfortable for about 15 min. is all.
I was looking at a Viper alarm system that had a auto start mode but since its being a manual it didn't work.

Have you found anything on the internet about an auto starter for a manual?

that's a good question. i know with our push button start we need a different setup than a typical focus. same with the manual trans... that doesn't mention it but the price is right.

Wow, OP Didn't ask for life coaching, he asked about a remote starter. Either provide him info about remote starters or don't say anything at all. You aren't required to read every thread here, just don't click on something if you think you won't like it.

Wicktek has a thread on getting the system installed on his car, might want to check that out if you haven't already b

Of course it does. A remote start is a convenience you think people are stupid and or lazy for having and that is a waste of money. In that regard a lawnmower and dishwasher are also convenience items that arent needed that people spend their money on when they could take a little extra time and do it the hard way without help from a convenience device. You say a remote start is a waste because we dont need it and can do without it. Just like your wheels and stereo, so why have them...

oh because you work hard for your mmoney and spend it on what you want to. Because its your money and your car. Even if people may not agree they were wise choices. I know plenty who would say the stock wheels worked fine and you wasted money on different wheels and or audio equipment. See what I did there? Really no difference. He is chossing to spend his on a remote start. Irs none of your business and if you dont like it dont read about it. I come across topics I have zero interest in a lot. I dont read them. I move on. I dont go and insult them and try to impress upon them my disinterest.

The only complaints I saw was you complaining about people being lazy for having or wanting a remote start, and you complaining about people wasting your time because you have to read about things you dont care about. I saw a reason for wanting one given when it was asked. To which you felt the need to jump all over and insult the op for his poor life decisions in not having a 3 car garage and so on. I saw no complaints though. The op did not ask for your opinion and certainly not your ridicule and insults.

OK. WOW.

So when its, well lets say -40 outside, like it was a week ago for most of the Northern Midwest, and Northern East coast, I am the lazy one for not wanting to go outside to start my car? I'll sure to allow the comments in this thread weigh in on my decision to add a remote start, when I buy one.

There is plenty of information for someone wanting to buy a remote start in here now.

Easy one...Closed.
