So I just bought a leftover 13' st2 a little over 2 weeks ago. Dealer said they put a new battery in it before I picked it up...Just finished a 16 hour shift at work and grab the door handle and the car wont unlock. I fish the little key out of the fob unlock the door and the little red "I" in the bottom center of the cluster is flashing and the car is stone dead. I have 1800 miles on it. Did they give me a bad battery or is something draining it? There was nothing left on and the car is stock. I jumped it and it took a good 5 minutes before anything even turned on. Thoughts?

Hate to say it but unfortunately dealers do lie about stuff like that. Your salesperson probably went to his manager and said the car needed a new battery, his manager asked if he was a pu**y and questioned his manhood and his desire to "hold gross" and your salesperson sulked away to charge your old no good battery. When asked he gave a convoluted and slurred response that seemed to imply it had been replaced but really it hadn't been.

The big question is, "Why did it need a new battery"? If they did put in a new battery, and it was dead when you picked it up, then there is obviously something in the car that is draining the battery. The dealer should measure the current drain from the battery with everything off.
I don't know what the reading should be but it should only be a few milliamps. There is a small drain for running the clock, etc.

Just because thus battery is "new" does not mean it is going to hold a charge. The chemical reactions that take place in a battery sometimes **** up, and badabing you have a bad battery. Also it could have been sitting in cold and hot weather, but really there are a ton of factors that go into what could cause a dead battery this quickly. It is hard to say, I would also watch the charging system as there may be something wrong with it too.

Come on now... I can't believe some of the response in this thread... you can EASILY verify a new battery just by looking at it. An old battery will have some dirt and junk on it even at only 1800 miles.

Seriously guys?? Paranoid much?

I had a new car battery die after just 1 year... the dealer replaced it. How did I check? -- pop open hood, look at the stickers / date of manufacture, cleanliness of entire battery (hard to just wipe clean after road grime is on old battery for a while).

Should be dead simple to verify. LOL at some of the paranoid responses...

This is a left over 2013 ST2, battery probably got discharged to very low levels which is not good for the life of the battery. Dealer probably just put a new battery in and good to go.

That sounds shakey to me. In the old days when each cell had filler caps, you could check the specific gravity in each cell to find problems. I addition,
the jumpers between cells were external so you could check each cell under load. With todays sealed batteries you can do neither!

Best of luck man. I hope that fixed it.

Glad to hear the dealership stepped up and replaced the old battery

Squeeze the tabs on either side of the narrow end of the fob and then pop off the Ford emblem...there it is. There is a small slot on the door for this key, now you can get in if the fob battery goes dead. Then, pop off the cover where the ignition switch would be on the steering column; there are tabs in there where the fob can be snapped into. The car will now recognize the fob and will start!

Well it has happened again...came home from work yesterday morning slept all day didnt use the car and it was dead when I went to leave for work again. Drove it a solid hour and a half with traffic. I worked a 16hr shift, went to leave and the car was stone dead. I called the dealer to let them know. Service rep said he is going to run the vin and get back to me. If its dead again im just going to call roadside and have it t owed to the dealership w/o a jump and let them investigate.

Update: Dealer finally got the car to not start. It sat all last weekend and started Monday morning an evening. I called wed evening for an update and the Service writer said he started it in the morning when he came in and will try it while he had me on the phone. It didnt start! So I just went for a ride to check on it and they have acknowledged there is a draw on the electrical system and are currently (no pun intended) trying to isolate the draw. Any thoughts?

They're going to have to monitor the draw then start pulling modules and relays. Unless there is another symptom that they can use to troubleshoot, they're going to have to start probing...

The usb doesn't have power after the MFT powers down on my st2. Definitely do not think this is the issue, I have left my iphone plugged in overnights and whatnot without any issues.

They probed and found the GPS antenna was the culprit. They are going to order a new one tomorrow and hopefully I get my car back soon. I really dig this explorer xlt they gave me to drive around in for the time being but the fuel is killing me commuting 100+ miles a day!
