Hi Everyone:

I was hoping someone knew the paint code for the wheels on my 16 Focus ST in the picture. I believe they are hyper silver? Have a chip in one of the wheels and would just like to put some touch up paint on it before it starts to spread.

Thanks!

I asked this in the past and never got a legit answer.

I've also asked at two dealerships and both were unable to give me an answer.

At one point I was going to experiment with various shades of grey touch up paint but I lost interest.

Hope someone can chime in with an answer.

This is very interesting! I want an answer to lol. When I had my old tires on they didn't have rim protectors and when I went threw a tunnel wash the metal bar scraped against the wheel just a little

Hey everyone - reviving an old post of mine related to the discussion below.

In a situation where I would like to replace one of my wheels. Unfortunately, I've been burned 2x on getting a wheel that is slightly off.

My understanding is that 2013-2014 ST models had three color options for the snowflake wheels. Sparkle Silver, Charcoal and Rado Grey. Then from 2015+ the only color option is the Rado Grey, otherwise known as the hyper grey from the picture above.

Im curious if this is correct or not. Additionally, id like to know if the Rado Grey is the same color from year to year or if there is a slight variance due to different year batches.

Please chime in if you have any information to add or correct.

Thanks!

There are slight variances within same model year batches. Buddy of mine has a '16 ST1, I have a '16 ST3 (both Kona Blue). His wheels are noticeably lighter than mine, and closer to the standard silver that was offered on the earlier model years.

Can confirm.

My 2015 had a much lighter, almost more opaque version of Rado grey.

My 2016's wheels are noticably darker.

That said, if anyone is still desperate for some Rado grey touch up paint, I did come across this...

Hi everyone and thanks for your input. I actually ordered this "Rado Grey" touch up paint the other week and will fill you guys in with color pictures when it arrives.

I find it a little crazy that even in the same model years, Ford would use a different color to paint the same wheels then give them all the same name. This is most likely the reason they have not released a paint code for the snowflake wheels, because there is none! Haha.

That being said, I wish I knew the snowflake wheels were painted the way they are with the thick paint that easily chips. Would have opted for the premium machined ones instead. Shame, I really like the snowflakes.

Received the touch up paint today. Unfortunately it is not the hyper silverish color I am looking for. However, it does match a 2014 wheel I had bought online but ended up being a different shade. The color of the touch up paint is exactly the color of the wheel in the picture below:

Wheels wear paint differently and something as simple as the brake pad dust can cause the color appearance to change. Remember, back in 2015 they changed the pad compound on our cars to be (What I believe, correct me if I am wrong) to a better compound but has better bite.

In my opinion, I think that any local paint store should be able to look at the wheels and break out the fan cards or even a paint matching device to come up with a code and the amount of variance between the factory color and what you guys have. Any local paint supply store should be able to mix up a few ounces of urethane paint that is the same color.. might take a day and cost around 15 bucks, but you are getting actual paint... not mass produced touch up stuff that runs and is like piss. Remember... ford also uses waterbased paint to paint cars and I am assuming the same for wheels unless its a powdercoat style paint that is baked on or has a electrolysis style way to apply paint to the wheels, but I doubt the last part due to the fact that the wheels are an alloy part and not a steel, but still not something to be dismissed.

The bad part about this is that for replacement wheels, that means there is a color variance. This means that if you ever need a replacement wheel there is a large change that you will not get a matching wheel color, aka you crack a wheel, go to the dealer, order a new one, and low and behold when you get it home it does not match the other three because ford took the generic route on that wheel. Scary much?

I think when I get some time I am going to look into if there are different part numbers for that wheel or if they are all the same across the years.

Just ordered that ebay Rado Grey touch up paint. Hoping it will match the 2017 wheel a little better. Was the paint too light or too dark?

Cant you just take your wheels to a paint shop and have them color match it? Ive never had them do a color match based on the optical thingy they use but since the wheels vary in color so much, I would think it would be the best solution.
