So, after three years of ownership, somebody pissed me off enough to distract me from shifting. I was going down the highway, and my exit was coming up. I usually try and merge early to get off, but today, no such luck. I was in the middle lane, trying to get around a semi, when the vehicle ahead of me decided that, as I was about to merge, they needed to slow to 45mph from 60mph FOR NO ****ING reason. Traffic was clear ahead of the asshole. After they sped up just enough to give me room to merge, THEY DID IT AGAIN!!! I was pissed at this point because I had not done anything to incite this stupidity, so I shifted into 2nd to pass them. Just as I got to 60mph and in the right lane, they slowed down again, which drew my attention away from my rev counter. That's where I hit the wall. Nothing makes you more angry than hitting that wall accidently because another person was being a **** on the road. Three years. No redline. Then, one afternoon, I get ****ed in the ass by an idiot trying to incite an accident. This is exactly why I have a dashcam. Just in case they decided to go for broke and cause an accident, as my car is cursed to forever attempt to dodge accidents. Yes, my Tangerine Scream Focus ST is an accident magnet. Anyways, I digress. Have any of you guys ever hit that redline by accident?

The electronic rev limiter? No worries mate. A "money shift" is more of a concern. I wasn't data logging, but i did a money shift of sorts, mechanical over-rev by improper gear selection, past 7300 for sure. No damage done, thankfully. **** happens when you keep changing the shifter setup like I was, lol.

I have hit it more than I like to admit...I am one of those guys who may or may not rev at people to say **** you(if they are behind me, as the horn says **** you to the guy in front who I don't have a problem with atm) but my car does backfire...so that also makes them back off from me. :p Call me an asshole, idc I will just make you go deaf with my exhaust. :p Plus people in my city actually suck at driving, most of them drive like they are still on the country roads outside town, and just don't pay any attention to lights, signage, or other cars. Literally every major intersection has accidents almost every single day, and this is a "small" city.

I have hit it when doing that, but I have also accidentally done it while just driving in situations like you did. I have "money shifted" my ST many times, sometimes due to the fact I have a **** trans that I have been trying to get replaced again for the past 1.5 years...or just by pure accident because I just shifted weird and picked the wrong gear. Nothing has gone wrong with the motor to show that I have damaged it by over revving, and if it ever does, then I will just build it. :p

I suppose that my biggest thing about the redlining is that I am always VERY aware of my revs. I know what gear I need to be in for what speed and for how much power I want to put to the pavement. That's why I chose second at 45mph. That's enough revs to get the ST to go fast without having to worry about the turbo eventually kicking in. Unfortunately, I just didn't hit the shift at 60mph, where I should have at the latest.

**** happens man. I know my car very well, and a few variables later I can miss shift, I catch it and correct almost instantly, but it happens. No harm, no foul.

Before the tune and all the upgrades I've hit the limiter a few times, now the turbo runs out of breath so bad I have no reason to keep going. It just falls on its face soooo bad. I have also had a "money shift" once. I'll have to find the picture but it's like 8100 or so. Had CEL on and all, thought for sure I broke it, that was 10k miles ago lol.. I'll post it if I can find it

Found it.. only 7900 but still well over lol

I did it on the back straight at Pocono. Didn't think I would want to go fast enough to redline in 4th but I did. I had no idea I was going that fast until the car starting bogging and I looked down. Eventually manned up and shifted to 5th to go faster.

The electronic limiter is there for a reason, hitting 6.5k and hitting 7k are most likely no different in effect on the car. It's just there so you DON'T get to the part of the tach that could do "serious damage" to the motor, like these guys who have money shifted have hit (and also caused no damage).

You're fine, don't stress about something that isn't a bad thing. :)

Can say I've done it a few times, but only in neutral thank god. I've went to upshift and it wasn't in gear enough so the gate kicked me out and I revved the crap out of it

Nope, only on purpose.
This. In other cars though.

In my ST I have yet to hit redline...but not because I'm afraid to. Just because I shift at 5.5k when the power stops lol. Haven't money shifted yet knock on wood.

My GSX-R600 however...I've redlined it at 17k before...why? It's a sportbike. Lol you hit that number pretty dang fast. No harm done :D

Brake checking is illegal, however.

** In most states
That's why it's good to know how to use the left foot to give the brake pedal just enough love to make the lights come on. ;)

Luckily for us, even with a sharp bite on the stock pads, touching the brake pedal at all lights them up...BUT when a55holes are tailgating me I just leave them behind weather permitting. If you're on my a55 then you're flying because I'm right at 10 (sometimes 15) above PSL on the highway like 90% of the time.

You can also just clean your windshield. The guy who's tailgating you will inevitably get windshield washer fluid on his own car. Most of times that's enough.
Or you can just slow down, piss him off until he passes you while giving you the finger :D
