Has anyone had this issue before? I just noticed today that when I popped my hood open to fill the washer fluid that water was on my hand. It has rained here a little every day and a good bit today.. I assume the water is coming in via the latch... I wont be able to take it in till next week at least but would rather fix it myself if possible on my day off tomorrow.

Edit to clarify: there wasnt water on the floor or anywhere it just peed on my hand when I hit the release for the hood.

Nope, no sunroof on mine. And again it only spat a small amount of water on my hand and the latch when I pulled it to get the hood open.

Ive washed the car a few times and will always clean the jams out including the underneath of the hood and its never done that before. The only difference is that we had a good bit of rain last night and today in Marietta (I commute to Hartsfield).

More likely it's leaking around your door seals or window and dripping down to the release. If water followed the cable it would drip behind the panel. Seems like to me anyways.

Probably the grommet popped out of place where the cable goes through to the outside.

I assume the grommet for the cable is at the firewall somewhere near the steering rack, but is that where it is or is it in the fender?

I haven't looked for it myself, but I would open the hood and follow the cable back towards the cabin. And of course, that may not be the problem but that's where I'd look first.
I tried that but the cable goes under the fuse box and battery box and I am not taking both of those out.. Its easier to find from inside the car. I havent had time to get it to my parents house where I can crouch down and look inside the bottom of the dash. I tried it at my apartment and some idiot about ran me over because they dont pay attention.

Anyone? I prefer to not get run over by the old ladies in my apartment complex looking for this thing under the dash. In my experience with other cars this has been the traditional spot under the dash. I might be able to check it this coming Sunday.

An interesting thing to note is that I took my car through a car wash yesterday and popped the hood to clean the jambs and it didnt pee on my hand like it did the day it rained. This is weird..

Yeah I had been thinking the water was travelling down the hood release cable but is there a water drain hose that runs down the A-Pillar? I dont have a sunroof so I am not sure if there is a drain from the "rain rails" on the left and right sides of the roof like cars with sunroofs have.

My googlefu is weak looking for information on water drain hoses for ford focus'.

AC drain plugged. Water will fill up and splash on to the floor. The drain can be blown out with an air compressor
Not sure where it is in the ST but that's what I would start looking into. It's pretty common.

Except the water is coming from the hood release. Ill look into the AC drain but the water splashes out when I pull the release in the car (Wouldnt a clogged a/c line also pool water on the passenger side?). The car has 9500 miles on it, and it only happens when it rains (maybe when I wash the car too).

Ive got an appointment with my dealership tomorrow. They said as long as its a warranty issue Id get a loaner car (I have extended warranty). How could this not be? lol. I know hes just covering in case it was something I caused but I found it humorous. Crossing my fingers that they can figure it out.

I found the gasket for the hood release cable at the firewall and the cable has to pass through some thick sound deadening material (or it could be for fire) I dont see how it would leak through all that and run down the cable. The gasket wasnt that tight.. I could move it around it seemed (couldnt see it just felt it).

The car got run in the car wash a billion times to find leaks but like I told them it doesnt leak when I wash the car, only when I drive in the rain... But they re-positioned a cowl cover and said "maybe that will fix it, but we couldnt reproduce it". Hard to say you "FIXED" something when you never experience the issue. I even provided a photo of it. My next step is to just explore the car after it rains. IF it rains. It seems like we havent had real rain here in Atlanta in a while.

Update:

It finally rained yesterday and of course rain water leaked in at the hood release handle (in the car) when I rotated it to pop the hood. Then today water was dripping in from it. Im moving this week and having recurrent training at work this weekend and next week I have to fly for about 12 hours as part of my yearly training. Itll be about two weeks before I can get this thing in again.
@FordService when the dealership looked at it before they just had it stationary under some rain booths or something like that and they also used the car wash. They couldnt find leaks. I told them the car wont leak during a car wash, it only happens in the rain while driving. Can they not just start at the hood release in the car and remove parts inside and see if there is a seal missing nearby? I am not a car mechanic but when they are unable to diagnose the issue correctly I dont have any faith in this actually being fixed. I love this car and want it to be problem free. I especially dont want or need mold growing IN my car. What can we do to ensure this is fixed when I take it in? Ill be making an appointment soon (today) with my dealership.

Hey Blindeye_03,

I got your PM and just responded. I'll check out available options to help get this leak stopped.
