Ouch. I'm just now hearing the story and just want to apologize. If you're anywhere near North AL and need an extra set of hands, I'd be willing to help.

I've always thought with how cheap the ST was at MSRP, it might make a good 24 hours of lemons car. Just get an old edge motor, Jerry rig some kind of radiator and have at it.

MY FRIENDS, and that includes all of you, if you wanna build a lemons car, WELL THAT IS PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY WHERE THIS IS GOING, so.

Actually, I think I've changed my mind. For $1950 down I can buy an rs right now and have it delivered to my door. Anyone wanna buy this thing for parts? PM your questions. I have the mbrp xp exhaust, the downpipe is an acceletec although you'll wanna check it out for yourself before installing, I have a jbr drag mount (rmm) and drag side mounts, cobb exhaust is still nice, new engine and BRAND new turbo, pcm with a stage x tune and an accessport. Coilovers, gecko I think. Transmission shifts smooth. Clutch is good. St3 dash, but the seats are all egged... so is the gas tank, so, you know, I won't be starting it. There is nothing wrong with the car, really, if you wanted to drive it around on private roads, you could (once you replace the radiator and intercooler).

I'll make a for sale post, I'm going to pick it up from the storage facility right now. I know the thing is wrecked, but I can imagine getting $3-5k out of parts.

So no. Y'all don't like this idea. To be honest I don't really want an RS anyway. I just don't have the money to fix this ST, and I have to keep running my business... so, I guess I'm buying a Miata :). Sell everything on Ebay or something?

That's probably one of the coolest builds I've seen.

Aside from the 5.0 whipple.

The ST/RS the 5.0 guy has is awesome as well.
But the tanked focus is pretty badass in it's own way. It's only an SE though. Gross

LoL, sorry, I'm a little tense lately.

I get the car back Monday, and I've decided to just build it, like I said earlier. It could end up being a very cool build, and I wouldn't have done it without all of this.

But I don't have windows, intercooler, radiator, oil cooler, a passenger tail light, and god only knows how bad the water damage is to the interior. My income is driving this damn car! I run a courier business, Flying Nimbus LLC. I'm down to the wife's minivan, and that's just the one vehicle so our income is literally cut in half. It's killing us, and I WASN'T preapproved for the RS like I thought...

All of this is to say, I AM GOING TO THRIVE THROUGH THIS SITUATION AND I WILL COME OUT WITH A BETTER CAR THAN WHAT I STARTED WITH, but it is very hard right now. So, forgive me. I'm a little tense.

That build right there is inspiring. I'm asking koyorad and mishimoto and jbr if any of them would be willing to uh... send me those parts for my birthday? It's in September, but hey...

I have a 99 cavalier with no rear brakes, I could use that to double up our income again, but if I have to slam on the brakes, well, I'll just die. So... I'm stalling it out until I get the car back. Hopefully I can have my dad help me weld the body panels closed, and THEN I'll run the cavalier until I have the money for a new oil cooler, radiator, and intercooler.

I'll probably have to drop the gas tank and clean it out too.

New plan, upon calming down and smoking my pipe. My business is driving my car, among other things, but I focus on the transportation side and I drive. So, it wouldn’t be all too silly to take out a loan for my business and just… build a car. My budget is $30k, and I have three months to build a street legal grocery getter that I can actually take to champ car and the USTCC. If this is still for sale in three months, I might start there:

I am going the route of buying a transmission from Clarke, I think. Not convinced as to who should build the engine, but whoever it is should be the one tuning it as well. I want wpc treated everything, as much as I can do to make the engine breath easier (BT, head work, cams, I have no idea…), and lots and lots of suspension work. Probably going to strip it completely bare, down to the very threshold of street legal.
I will put parts up for sale to help facilitate the process of getting to the point where I have the money, but if I keep the parts I can use them to get to my goal anyhow, so no hurry. Feels better that way.

Should have it done before my birthday!!!

Oh, and it will still be a mad max build. Might keep my old shell and use that as the base, ax marks and all. Weld ‘em closed so they’re safe…

Yes, it’s a great study on how to accept the things you cannot change and instead find a way to come away from it stronger and in a better position than before you suffered the trauma.

So, I just talked to the finance company I’ll be using, and they have confirmed literally that in three months my business checking account will have enough age to prove our business’s income. We qualify for $70,000, and I’ll be taking $30,000. I’m gonna build a 2.0 stroked to 2.3, stratified aux fuel, efr 71/63 (might even go for the 62/58 because that might be better for the class I want to enter).

I’ll be purchasing a wpc treated transmission with carbon fiber synchros, and an mfactory lsd (stronger and the e-diff actually prevents no load wheelspin).

I’m planning on using the stock calipers, rebuilt with better bushings and such, and then I’ll keep them cool with fans and ducting. When I NEED to improve them, I will.

I’ll be using jbr sways and end links.
Stiffest mounts I can find are JBR.
I’m gonna install an oil cooler radiator and intercooler, but I’ll be focusing on ducting and creating space for my cooling gains.

carbon fiber everything, and any body panel I can set up for quick removal I will. When the money gets here I will have a month to get the car (assuming I don’t just keep mine, you’ll see a part out soon if I don’t), and so this thread isn’t to talk anymore about how a random ****ing lunatic destroyed my car, nor is it about how the insurance company is asserting that I did it… It’s about building a fast Ford. If you want to build a fast Ford great.
