The 100,000 Mile Journey

So I have officially driven 100,000 miles in my ST. I know a few others have as well, but i seem to be the most active member with mileage this high. I decided to start this to document my build and to answer any questions. This isn't officially a "build thread" yet, but in the very near future, my ST will be going through quite the change.

A few details about my ST:

2013 Performance Blue ST2

- Battery replaced at 108,000 miles.

- Brake Fluid flushed out at 116k/ replaced with wilwood 570 fluid

- Transmission fluid drained at 116k/ replaced with stock fluid

As of right now, the only problem I have is the HPFP which is being replaced. My driver side door handle has lost some paint on the inside part of the handle.

That's basically everything as of 9/14/2015. I'm going to be updating this post as time goes on, and eventually i will ask to move this post to the build section once that starts.

I will be posting pictures of my interior and exterior. If you guys want any specific photos, just ask and i will try my best to take them. My housing community is very strict with any car work, and i always get yelled at when i'm cleaning my filter, so just keep that in mind when asking for pics.

Edit1: I forgot to mention, I've worked in the car industry for the past 6 years doing IT. When I purchased the car, I was the IT manager for a Ford dealer in Lake Worth, FL. I am currently the IT director at a medium sized auto group on the treasure coast in Florida. We own 11 different manufactures with Lincoln being one of them. If anyone needs guidance with how to handle situations with their dealership, I can help with that as well. Also, yes, I am still on the stock clutch.

Edit2: Adding Pictures.

Edit3: Updated about leaky battery, and brake lines covered in acid.

Edit4: Had new brakes, brake lines, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and one piece lug nuts installed.

Edit 5: Catless Downpipe finally purchased from forum member @looktothesky08

Edit 6: Purchased boost gauge from forum moderator @Fuxalt

Edit 7: Catless Downpipe installed.

Congrats on 100k. Do you think the HPFP issue is related to running e30?

Done anything with the carbon build up? Intake cleaning, etc. Be interested to see what the intake tracts look like if they haven't been touched.

Just wondering if you're on the stock clutch, and if so how has it been holding up?
Did the dealership give you any grief when describing the strut bearing noise? I ask because my FoST is making the noise and I am planning to bring it in next week to get checked out.

I would assume stock clutch since he has posted all the info on work done very cleanly

I agree, but I just wanted to make sure. I am just curious as to how our factory clutches are holding up with increased power/torque output and at that mileage.

I don't think so. Our fuel pumps are the same as the flex fuel pumps. The check engine light came on Sunday night, after a day of some heavy footed driving. It's not related, but I think it just gave out from all the hard driving I do on a regular basis.

Thank you, sir. I hope this helps people feel better about their car, even when modifying.

I have not. I don't have anything in place like an OCC either. The only cleaning I do is the air filter. When I start my engine build, I'm going to be taking before and after a of everything.

I am. Stock clutch. And it's holding amazingly well. Part of it is I don't launch the car. Part of it is knowing how to drive the car. Part of it is living in south Florida, no hills.

The dealership did not. I forgot to mention, I've worked for a ford or a Lincoln dealership for the past 6 years. They know about me being tuned, and don't really care. Mention the TSB, and you should be ok.

I understand that the hpfp is the same as the flex focus but since the flex focus is not a "performance" vehicle do u think that fuel pump had more stress on it and have out early because of that?

Well the stress could be part of it. My driving habits are pretty aggressive. I don't think the e30 had a play in it. When the tech took out the pump, he said nothing about ethanol, and he is aware of my e30 usage.

Thanks, nice to see high mileage on a car that is beat on. I work from home and only drive for fun so my ST is hammered on whenever it gets driven.

Good to know! Look forward to your build

More importantly, my ST takes a beating in the South Florida heat.. I think its a mixture of proper maintenance, understanding how the car works, and a proper tune is what keeps it going without many problems. I feel like the issues I've had so far are par for the course. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm just above the FL/GA line so mine is driven in 90+ high humidity most often.

With no issues myself, but only 25K miles in 2 years, I think you are right working the car hard is not an issue if you understand what is going on.

Congrats on the 100k, LOLMS3! I hope the next 100K treats you as well as the first. :) I'll be here if you need me.

Hey Melo_Outt,

Send over a PM with your name, VIN, mileage, dealer, and best daytime phone number. I'll look over some resources on my end to see how I can help get your ST running in tip-top shape again. Talk to you soon! :)
