I can't believe I'm posting this right now, but my ST was the first car I've ever changed plugs on that had a tapered seat (no crush washer).

When tightening these, I ran them down as far as I could by hand, then ran the rest of the way with a wrench until the stop point, then just gave them an 1/8 turn cinch.

The thing I didn't get is that the plugs call for 106 inch pounds, but my torque wrench was clicking after I had run them down with my fingers only. I know the wrench is good, but that didn't seem right since it hadn't been screwed down to the stop point yet.

I'm confused, did I overtighten, or is there something wierd with my torque wrench?

Yes, correct plugs, Denso ITV20. I also know they aren't cross-threaded, I ran them in by hand first with no problem, it was just more the tightening that threw me off.

Perhaps will will pull one of them today and judge the amount of force it takes me to break it loose.

There can be quite a bit of gunk that works its way into.the threads, thus requiring additional.force to get the plug installed. Thise torque specs are for completely clean surfaces, which unless you throughly chased those threads, are useless.

I bottom them out, then give them A final tightening. Just by feel. You dont want to strip or crack the plug, but obviousley you want it to seal properly. So just keep that in mind.

Yeah they are fine. I just pulled one out and it came out with no effort. I think there was just some resistance on the threads that was messing up the torque wrench. These were the factory plugs and they've been in there for 75k, so there was probably some gunk in there.
