Hey guys, I've been trying to research and understand some of these e85 calculations.. still a bit iffy on how to mix right. I will try to get an ethonal content gauge soon, but in the meantime.. when I'm at a qtr tank or so, I think it's supposed to be something like 3.5 gallons e85 and the rest with premium?

this is actually a fun little math problem, its two equations two unknowns we all remember our algebra right? right??

It took me longer than it should have to solve this but I've made a spreadsheet that you all can download:

Ethanol calculator, I'll probably throw this into a stuck thread, download to your PC or phone to be able to modify.

While @junits15 is the hero and posted a calculator.. So you know how it works... you want to keep in mind that when you have these mix ratios posted you have to realize that after the 1st E30 fill you already have ethanol in the tank. So, if your chart says add 3.5 gallons of E85 to a tank... you would have had to had no E in the tank for that to work. Otherwise you are increasing the E content each time. You have to consider what E is in the tank, what the E level is at the pump, and what the actual E content is at the pump (varies by season so you should test with a kit). It can be very confusing. Without the gauge you are approximating at all times.

Yeah I know, has anyone gotten a ethonal content gauge? Which one? Is there an install how to?

Tune plus has one. Not cheap. There are also DIY kits. I personally am going to get the tune plus one as it’s a complete kit.

There is no such thing as a “fun little math problem”. You must be some sort of sick-o to think such a thing!!! :p

Get a Bluetooth gauge for sure, you only need to briefly check the e content for a few miles after you fill, no need to take up a permanent fixture on your dashboard for that

A gauge pod does look more racecar though so it’s not a terrible option lol

Yeah I agree with this, once you drive a bit, the number isn't going to change. I really only pay attention after I refuel and then when I'm at the pump to refuel and need to calculate again. I use the same station every time and the content is pretty constant for me too, makes it easy to get right

I’m confused by the ethanol calculator lol. Is there a way to mix e85 with 91 octane to make e10 or e15?

91 is already e10 (unless its specified as 0 ethanol)

e30 is just 70 percent gasoline and 30 percent ethanol. If your base gasoline is 91 or 93 it makes no difference in the ratio, the goal is to just get 70 percent of what is in the tank to be either 91 or 93.

The way the calculator works is you enter in the concentrations of the two fuels your using, typically its 10% for the gasoline (91 or 93) and then something around 85% for the e85. Its best to test them both to be sure. Then you enter the target you want to hit, which is usually 30% for most tunes, and the fuel remaining in your tank. The calculator does the rest.
