Accord V6 Sport Coupe. On the highway. I mostly see these driven by ladies wearing matching leopard print outfits and handbags, but not today. Young guy with a baseball cap on backwards and had the seat tilted so far back I could only see his eyebrows. Car was debagged, I mean de-badged , maybe to fool unsuspecting prey. It had wheels and looked possibly lowered, I figured doing a highway pull I would probably get walked, but my lightly modded st actually walked away from it to my surprise. Not bad looking cars really. I don't know if people mod these or whatever, but there must be more power in that big V-6 to be had. Also the road was empty and was in Canada where street racing is legal.

My buddy just bought a brand new v6 accord. Can't remember if it was the sport package or not, but I know it's v6. I was surprised because it was able to keep up with me. Starting from a 20 roll, I would get a good jump, but I wasn't able to keep pulling away. And when starting from a 40 roll, he was able to just keep next to me. His car is not modded at all. So ultimately, I was surprised.

Yeah the new ones are what, 280 HP or so crank? Throw a tune on that bad boy and it'll run for an Accord family sedan.

I forget the exact number, but I can't exaggerate on how shocked I was. Only real reason I was able to pull at 20 was because of our torque. When we took off at 40+, I couldn't pull on him, nor was he able to reel me in. It was pretty even. Not too shabby for a family sedan haha

All those V6 sedans are going to go pretty damn good.

Impala (305hp), Maxima (300hp), 300 V6 (292hp), Charger V6 (292hp), Passat V6 (280hp), Camry V6 (276hp), Chrysler 200 V6 (295hp), Fusion Sport (330hp), Legacy 3.6R Flat 6 (256hp).

Ones that don't offer a V6 anymore, but a 2.0T instead: Optima (240hp), Sonata (240hp), Malibu (250hp), Fusion (240hp).

Mazda6 and Altima only offer a 2.5L 4 cylinder with 185hp currently.

But other than a straight line, they won't drive as fun or exciting as a Focus ST, which is far more purpose built for that than any of those family haulers. I've driven them all (2014-2017 model years) and those family haulers do very well around turns for what they are. Passat, Legacy, Camry, Optima, and Sonata are the most lacking around turns I found. Understeer, vague steering feel, and just don't come around turns as nicely/tight as the others.

Most of those also suffer greatly from weight differences, tires stock, etc. Plus the torque differences in some are the reason that most of those aren't even considered sporty and are all in different classes. Like the Fusion Sport for example would run all over all of them, not just because it's 30+ more HP than almost all of them, but because it's a twin turbo car with AWD and 350 ft/tq. And you're totally right about the focus point of most of them. Charger, straight line classic muscle car. The rest of that group other than Fusion? Family sedans. Throw a tune on any of them and upgrade some stuff? Yeah total sleeper beasts for sure making bad drivers in STs and stock STs cry.

+1 about the Fusion Sport. I'm currently looking at my local Ford about picking up a used 2013+ Taurus SHO or 2017 Fusion Sport to replace my ST as my DD and move it to more of a weekend/project car. The Fusion Sport is very nice and people are starting to figure out how to make some good power out of them.

If you got one then your Fusion Sport would be faster than your weekend/project car lol
