Sputtering at Idle / stalls / split second drops in power / videos & Accessport info

Hey all,

I've seen a lot of threads about these issues, but it's super violent all of a sudden today after I got gas. Anyone have a thought? I got 2 videos of it too. About to drive home from work and it's 65 miles, sheesh.

I got new Spark plugs about 10 months ago, and new engine, and haven't had anything happen like this even yesterday with 150 miles of driving around. Could be a million things I'm sure, but ugh 😫

Ever replace your purge valve?
Yeah actually, not too long ago. I want to say Fall of last year? November I think.
If you had just filled up.....bad gas? Had that happen to me once (2007 Crossfire) at a BP station.....local supplier ended up paying the bill.

I am going off of a video on the internet but it seems like there's a LOT of audible fuel knock going on here (or something similar).

The fact that it's been 1/4 tank since fill-up and this issue is still happening, I'd suspect bad gas as well.

It happened immediately after I filled this morning. 120 miles later it was pretty tame half way back home tonight.

I'm going to start her cold tomorrow morning and see what we got. I'm hoping it just... went away? I've never actually dealt with bad gas before, if that's what it is.
Oh. I was going off the gas gauge, it was at 3/4 tank in this video so I'd assumed you had travelled some miles after fill-up.

Gas can be bad in a number of ways. Including inadequate octane which may have happened here. The issue is, you're on stock tune so the car should run 87 without much issue, unless it's lower than that.

What you could do is splash a gallon of e85 into the tank and see if the issue goes away.

I actually have always been running it with 93 octane. Since the beginning... although I got the new (used) engine with 50k miles on it, and not sure what was ran in It prior... Been fine though for 10k+ miles though!

Car started up with no issues this morning, and the last quarter of the way home yesterday was no problems. If I had an issue for a moment I was going to turn around and swap cars today, but even let it run for 15 min before leaving with zero probs.

Maybe there was some water or moisture in the tank?? I'm not sure what to say, but I'll take no issues as a win. Might stay away from that station for a bit though lol

Probably wouldn't hurt to throw a bottle of Heet in the tank to bond with any water (if that was the problem).

Glad it's not giving you any real issues today, though. That's fortunate.

I'd stay away from the gas station as well, my first guess would be bad gas.

Starting her up before leaving work... I hear that exhaust getting a little wonky again. What could cause intermittent problems like this. 🤔

I'll report back more info later. For the internet searches and others interested lol

Hope I can get her back home okay... 60 miles of testing weeee!

Got home and only had 1 issue while driving and stuck in traffic. Idle neutral shot up to 2000 rpm and went to normal.

I did manage to hit some long test strips of straight road and noticed a "power dip spike" when I hit 5k rpm exactly in 4th gear. Did it twice and noticed it twice... but I think I'm just looking for things now.

It's got to be simple, like bad fuel or something. I keep everything checked and maintained thoroughly.

I did get my Accessport in the mail though! Maybe I should just use it to check for some codes 😂

Yes, it might be a good idea to plug in and see if anything shows up.

Yes load stage 0 tune (stock tune), you can familiarize yourself with it and maybe get us a datalog of the issue!

So no error codes except the "can't detect active shutter control" code. Since it's ripped out for the intercooler. So that's good.

But it still sputters and stalled this morning with a bad idle. Now it's doing a bubble weird thing at idle again.

If I neutral slow rev it to 6,000 and let it drop down to idle, it "fixes" it momentarily for about a minute and then seems to start again. I'm probably going to try a dry gas mix or look up the Heet thing @rob99rt mentioned above. Unfamiliar with any of those things, only had to use dry gas a decade ago on my old 2006 focus, crack in something from an accident was letting water get into the engine through the air intake or something. Fun times, old stories lol
Idk why this is poor quality, but the audio is fine. Just a quick video of the sound from inside the drivers and up close to the exhaust. AP close up just says the engine shutter code

what is the OAR showing?
Set up the Accessport to show these gauges. Looks like AFR is a little high? And OAR is sitting at 0.00. I have only been idle so far and giving occasional revs.

OAR at 0.00 is not good; is that with premium fuel?

Yeah, it was 93. Always use 93.

I also did a shut off and turn on and have a check engine light for the first time. Error code on Accessport is

P2195 "O2 sensor biased/stuck lean (bank1 sensor1"
