I'll chime in.

I road race and if I pull my belly pan, I also have to pull my fender liners. The belly pan fastens to the splash guards on the front portion of the fender liner. Without the belly pan, there is nothing to fasten too, and at speed the wind pushes the splash guards into the tire and eats them.

I've had to replace two passenger fender liners because of this, and will probably have to do both again before I sell this car, whenever that is. I'm at the point now that if I eat another one, I'm just going to pull them and leave them off, along with the belly pan.

Other way around. Haha. The tires eat the splash guards.

They are fastened with screw and a small metal clip (threaded portion for the screw to grab onto) that could end up in your tire. The tire basically just melts and chews it up slowly, since it's still secure in the rest of the wheel well, so it's not like the whole fender liner is going to get ripped out and thrown off the car, although I suppose it COULD happen.

They serve a purpose. While running without the belly pan I agree with, if you live on a dirt road I'd want fender liners and inner splash guards at all times, along with some good mudflaps. You don't want rocks, mud and lots of water in some portions of your wheels wells, which is what the inner guards are for, thus why I keep replacing the ones I burn through.

They are only like $35 each, and I just replace yearly.
