Sigh...I am always very careful with my car, but at lunch today I backed into a spot and scratched my bumper on a pole. It took a chunk of paint off larger than a quarter and I am wondering what the best way of repairing this is? I have never had to have something like this repaired and wondered what some of you may have paid (ball park) in the past.

If it is too much I will just get one of these.

Is it just the paint that damaged or is that a hole?

I have never done it before and just don't want it to look terrible.

I've had the front bumper cover on my wifes Escape, at a good shop, for $500. I would think the rear cover would be a little less.

I do have a scrape on the underside of the front lip of my front bumper cover from a high curb. Even though you can't really see it by walking around the car it bugs me that it is there. I ordered a kit from this company
Touch Up Paint and Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup

It comes with the matched color in a spray can, a separate can of clear and some other bits. I figure I can tape off at the body line on the lower edge, sand the scrape so it feels smooth and then touch it up. If it looks like crap I'm going to spend the $500 and get the front end painted.

Whoa...no way I am ever paying $500. I just got a quote for $275. That is wayyyyyyyy more than I thought it would be. I thought $100 tops.

Of course prices vary with locality.
I had my bumper repaired Because 'citylife'.
I was quoted $250 for sand/repaint. There are a lot of nooks and crannies to cover-up. a lot goes into prep labor.

Or you could just get creative with a magic marker.

Yeah i ordered a black/white band aid sticker to go over it. I just don't have $275 to have that fixed right now.

Yeah sticker for now. I assume the whole bumper has to be done. I guess if that's the case then $275 isn't bad, bit I just don't have the money for that right now.

If you have the tools and are comfortable removing the bumper cover, see what the price will be if you bring them the bumper minus the trim, etc., ready for them to work on. I did that with the front bumper on my RX-8 and saved a few dollars compared to them doing all the labor.
