So I was at the dealer and saw the new RS , it looks almost just like the ST minus the larger wing, Inside almost identical, except I have the ST 3

Also talked to one of my buddies that tunes and they have already had it on the dyno, stock on our gas it's only 304 whp even with Cobb stage 2 that's only 320

I already have a Big turbo ST with a lot of upgrades and it makes up to 400 whp and gets 33 mpg on the highway, for a first time buyer out of the box, it is very nice, but compared to the the current ST IDK ? all wheel drive for 50K? that's a lot. I didn't think they would be that expensive, more like in the high 30's at the 50k level. Maybe see how the first year works out for the RS and go from there. Anyone else on the fence with their ST looking at the RS?

If I had a BT ST and 50k laying around for a new car, it wouldn't be for an RS. It's cool and all, and if someone wants to pay that markup then by all means. Simply not me.

IF.. and its a OF that would never happen anytime soon, i could get a RS OTD for 35k then i would go after it.. otherwise for me, no way.. 40k puts me into other cars id rather own, and 50k is gt350 pricing.. That dealership has a stupid high mark up, im sure some one will pay it because to them its worth it.

Im not saying its not worth the money anymore, like i use to.. Just for me it puts in other cars id rather have at that price point. I dont need AWD, I dont have to have 4 doors, or even seat 4/5 for that matter. The ST fit the bill and what i was looking for at the time.. a good looking sporty car, i came from a FRS, so space isnt a concern for me as in three years ive never had the need for more then one passenger and even now its my son and my girl but we have a 16 Mazda 6 for that.. My next car will most likely be a V8 from GM, im really digging the C7 Grand Sport, or a AMG.

BUT if RS's are at the 35k OTD price i could look into them..

It's a good looking car and has some cool features but I don't think it's worth twice the price of an ST, No way!
The one at the dealership here put there own little mark up tag on it, scribbled in pen next to the window sticker it said: Market adjustment $8000. WTF

Take my opinion with a huge grain of salt, but no. I do not think an RS is worth it for 50K for a few reasons.

1. Just because you bought the car at 50K, doesn't mean it's worth that. So when you go to sell it, you've instantly lost the price you payed over MSRP which in this case is over 10K.
2. You are considering a car that's $50,000. I cannot justify spending that much and getting a car with a $20,000-30,000 dollar at the very most interior. That's 340i, 240i, Audi S3, GT350, Loaded GT, Loaded Camaro, Base C7, Audi S4 money. All of those cars not only have a nicer (some SUBSTANTIALLY nicer), but you could make an argument for being dynamically better driving cars.
3. This is very subjective, but I like to own every type of car. Every car is so different, with a different scene, driving dynamics, aftermarket, and experience in general. A move to an RS would be too similar to me at this point.

I don't think the RS is worth the mark up dealers are placing on them. I also don't think it will be a collector or cult type car in the future. It is a cool car, but not for what it cost with dealer mark up. Now if it was like most cars and it stickered for $40K and you could get down to $36K, maybe then. However, the latest issue of Car and Driver did their 10th Lightning Lap at VIR and the RS out ran some serious hardware

Pros-
AWD Grip
Warranty
More Power
Better Handling
Styling

TBD-
Resale
Reliability
Tuning gains/aftermarket

Cons-

Price especially that of a big turbo ST (but once again you have warranty).
Little has changed in the interior (Money went to the drive train)
Rear differential cooling
Things that are TBD like resale and reliability.
Fuel economy* (A lot of BT guys are getting better MPGs than RS owners are posting. Driving styles vary so more numbers are needed).
Weight.
Less trunk space/Lack of full sized spare.

Once again these are all things that are posted up by blogs/owners/reviews. I have yet to drive the car so its really subjective. If I had 50k to spend I have to say its on my radar but there are a lot of cars that fall into that range. Especially seeing it is more that twice the cost of what I paid for my ST2.

I not sure if it will become a cult or a collectors car here in the states like it did in Europe, will have to wait and see, for almost the same handling other than awd, which is not that usable here in CA and it drops on the gas mileage, I think it's a bit over priced myself, I guess the dealers can over price it and if it sells then people will pay that price. I know I am not buying another 1st year car and having to dump more money into it to make it right. The ST needed a lot of things dealt with, like the crappy squeaking, don't stop brakes they put on them, and the inner cooler that was built for snow not the heat, just to name a few, but I really like it now, it handles great and stops on a dime. I am sticking with my ST, was just kinda of seeing what others thought?

I'd wait until more are available next year. It's new, w/a limited first year world wide production run. I myself hope to eventually get one, but I'll wait.

Besides, you're better off not getting a first year model since there's always something wrong w/them.

Some dealers are asking for even more than $50K for them, and getting it no less. You have to figure that you'll never get that extra cost back when you sell it.
