Hello guys. So i was thinking about wrapping my interior trim with some vinyl. My first color of choice would be a dark red. I have a black 2016 St1 and thinking of going with an black/red theme. If anyone have pics of this made plz show me so i can have an idea how it would look. Could not find any...everybody does carbon fiber (looks good btw)

Got some samples coming in the mail soon. Red metallic and dark red gloss along with some Carbon fiber for the giggles.

Dam that looks pretty cool. Makes me confident about going red. Are the engine plastics vinyl or spayed? I have heard people say that vinyl is not good on engine compartment because the heat but cant find someone that actually had a bad experience.

Thanks for showing me btw

Personally, if I was gonna do any colour change in the engine bay... Anything metal, I would have it powderoated, anything plastic, I would paint. That's just my 2cents

I think i will follow the advice and go spray on the engine color scheme. Powder coating is expensive around here and i want to learn to do it myself but what gets me is having to mess with electricity. Got shocked real good drilling tru a wall once and it kida made me afraid of electrical stuff lol.

Thats why you send it out to a company who specialize in it. There's not much metal in the engine bay that's right in the direct line of sight. Especially when you still have the engine cover installed

So funny story... i ordered sample vinyls from metrorestyling and everything went good. I decided to go Gloss Carmine Red and also found out there is a local vinyl shop so i decided to stop in and ask if they carry this vinyl or something in similar tone of red. The guy proceeded to tell me that he can order me a 5x3 roll for $65 according to his catalog. As soon as he said that i by instinct said "holy ****". He asked me where did i find that color and if i actually was able to order online. I showed him the sample that also has a sticker attached that says metro and the color number...He was irate. He started to get mad and ranted on how i was not supposed to be able to order that and that is a site just for distributors (as this time i start laughing). I told him that i could get 5x3 FT roll for $31 including shipping and he lost his ****. He got so mad he even when outside and call them. Then he came inside and said he was mad because thats the same price they selling him the product lmao. I then told him "So you were about to charge me $60 for a product you get at retail price". Nevertheless, he was irritated and told me i cant order for you because I am wasting my time. I told him no worries man, i rather order online anyways if is this much hassle. Moral of the story.....I am gonna order me some Carmine Red vinyl and see how it goes myself

Quick story:
In my early 20s I had an older pickup. Grabbed a plug wire while the truck was running and was like "what's that funny fealling". Found out the plug wire insulation had a crack or hole in it. Got jolted from the distributor directly.

12ish volts isn't too bad. I do check or at least turn things off first now.

I'm actually looking at doing white with a few small red accents in mine as well. Any idea how close to "race red" or the ST logo this sample is?

Dont know 100% but seems super close. Its exactly the same shade of red in the ST logos and my factory colored red calipers if that helps. Thats why i picked it. They got samples at http://www.metrorestyling.com they got the best prices online so far. You can buy samples for $1. I did that with 4 shades of red ended using the samples on random stuff to see how it applies.

Awesome thanks! I went ahead ordered a sample of the 3M reds and the carmine red from Avery like you suggested, but I'm betting the carmine is the one i'll go with.

Cool. Yea i did the same ordered 3m and avery samples but went avery. They have the color closest to the ST and easier to manipulate around corners. 3M just stretches more with heat but i dont care for stretching a lot. Been reading it just minimizes the lifespan of the film the more is streched

Personally not my style, but if youre going to do the interior, vinyl wrap it. I mad the mistake of painting back on one of my old cars. It was annoying and the finish was not perfect.

I did vinyl wrap on the ST interior (in grey 3M carbon vinyl). I have posted pics of it before on the forum and cannot find pix on my phone so no pics of that (pretty much looks like everyone else that did CF vinyl only it is a gunmetal colored CF).

In my 2001 ZX3 I did a red carbon fiber dash kit from Roush (not vinyl... actual carbon fiber overlay). I liked it at the time, but looking back it seems tacky to me. I know it isn't the ST, but for an idea on red accents... Pic is from when I got rid of the car, so please no comments about stock stereo with carbon overlay (stereo was far from stock until right before I sold it :)).

If you have not done much vinyl work before make sure you get the right tools (temp adjustable heat gun, Xacto knife, credit card applicator). They really make the job a ton easier. Removing the trim pieces where possible also makes the job easier.
