Hey guys,

Have not read anything about people replacing their pcv valves. Is this something people are doing on the st?

wait so I am still confused, I am not trying to modify the pcv system in any way, just wanted to see if there is a pcv valve that would need to be replaced in some interval like every 20k and how to do that. anyone?

on my prior cars after a while the pcv valve would get caked with oil and would not function as well so it was a maintenance item. so I am wondering if it can be replaced and if people are replacing it as maintenance. anyone?

the 2nd out port was plugged by a brass bolt that costed me 3.04$ most expensive item on the engine:saint:
Easy to get to even when the block is in the bay, just remove the headafold
Headafold? You mean intake manifold?

The mazdaspeed 3 pcv valve (not entire plate) can swap right over. However you will need to adapt the hose size since the opening is much bigger. I have one sitting in my garage I was playing with for fitment verification. I did the same thing on my 05 Focus. Since the PCV valve is a wear item it's good to know the Mazda one is cheaper even with adapting the hose.

Sent from another garage.

The PCV on our cars is not available on its own; you have to buy the breather plate assembly I noted in my writeup.

My car has nearly 50K miles and when I removed the old PCV, I gave it a vigorous shake, and it rattled pretty much identically to the new one I had.

So, assuming regular oil changes and no dip stick expulsions (PCV stuck open), I'd wager you are fine to long-lifecycle your PCV since I can't find anything in the manual about it being a service interval item.

But, as the breather plate assembly with PCV, hose and gasket is under $30, it's cheap insurance if you suspect it is not functioning at 100% and you want to change it.

Hope that helps,
Mark
