I made 10 passes today. First time ever on slicks so I'm learning. Great day out! Pass 1 was on a 22psi tune launching at 4,500RPM just to make sure my clutch would hold. Pass 2 was a 28psi tune launching at 4,300 RPMs. Passes 3-10 were all a 28psi tune launching at 4,700 RPMs. I didn't flat foot shift until the last couple runs. Great help from @djfourmoney and great tune from @[email protected]

There's more in it, quite a bit more.

Questions -

1) What was the launch RPM on runs #3 and #4?

I ask because those two runs have with the highest trap speed, but run #4 is also the quickest pass of the day.

2) What was the cause of your trap speed to go down to 115 mph when earlier runs were closer to 117 mph? Is this the result of elevated coolant temps?

All else looks good for your first time and I told you 12's would happen if nothing else the car doesn't spin on the 1-2 shift anymore.

3 and 4 were both launching at 4,700RPM. I talked to Stealth last night too and got some info on his 12.3 passes, so I will take all that into consideration next time.

I would say coolant temps. I did a run and got back in line and didn't let it cool too much. Too excited to run I guess. Next time I will give it some time to cool. I will also datalog my future runs since that will help answer some questions as well. Once again, too many things going through my head and trying to remember, plus first time on slick jitters. At least that is out of the way now! On to better and faster runs!

It's likely the coolant getting too warm.

This proves the PCM looks at a few things before it decides to pull timing.

1) Fuel Quality
2) Coolant Temps
3) Inlet Temps

You run on E40 that covers the first, no knock reported. Inlet temps are covered by your upgraded intercooler. That leaves the coolant, stock radiator (despite double the power), stock thermostat and stock coolant.

I did the coolant mod (80% water, 20% coolant) and added Royal Purple Ice.

At idle after driving all night with Uber, coolant temps were 199 degrees. Just to see what would happen, I turned on the heater full blast. This is a tactic used by people with mostly stock cars at the track.

Via the SCT X4, I watched my coolant temps DROP from 199 degrees to 178 degrees. At that point I wanted to go in the house, so I shut it off. But I'm sure it would have gone lower.

I think I will try this tactic after a pass to get the car's coolant temps down on the return road before shutting it off. That way it should be well under temps as I want when I fire it up and do a burnout.

Ideally I want to enter the beams at 190 degrees or less.

Give it a try...

Finally took the car to the track. Only got four pulls, and my second was the best. Didn't spin or miss a gear.

I also made it to the track last night and made some passes. First pass was the best overall, however, I did have 1 pass with a great 1.7 60' but I missed a gear...so 11.9 was not realized tonight.

I do have a video of a couple passes that I will get loaded and post.

Turbo upgrade on the way, so not sure when I will make it back down. Stay tuned...

And the clip:

Two points I wanna make -

1) 2.1 60' with a quick spooling turbo like the EFR is pretty good, that said...

2) Since you can launch on these tires, drag radials shouldn't pose too much of a learning curve.

You will run 11's on drag radials, give it some thought.

Maybe I'll get a set down the line. It would be really cool to get down to the 11s. Maybe I'll get a set from someone who sold their car. Always a good deal. lol

It's your money.

No reason you can't parlay that investment into running the local bracket series, which will make you more consistent. Better yet how about the Index Racing Series they run at Old Bridge/Englishtown? - http://www.etownraceway.com/mypictures/2017/Flyer/Index2017.jpg or the Northeast Index Racers series at Atco - Index 17 | Atco Dragway 2017

Good driving by you could easily make that investment back.

Oh wow very nice. How were your times on the stock turbo with freek tune and slicks?

Any tips or suggestions? I have a custom E30 tune on the stock turbo pushing 300 hp on the dyno jet. Just trying to figure out what tires I should be running and what launches are ideal with the tires/psi etc.. I also still have the stock suspension along with minimal weight reduction.

Never had the stock turbo and slicks at the same time at the track. A good person to talk to would be @djfourmoney. He is running stock turbo and slicks.

I replied to your PM. I have an intake snorkel I have yet to install as well, so I'm curious how much of an improvement will come from it. Right now I'm on the stock inter-cooler and it's killing me in 3rd and 4th gear.

I almost jumped back into the light, but I'll remain on the dark side because the gains over just an inter-cooler upgrade are just too great plus I already made the investment.

We have great cookies too.

2015 ST3 making 400whp
List of modifications (see sig, 2867 Turbo, E40 Tune, Limited Slip Differential)
R/T 1.129 (wasn't concerned with a good RT, was trying to dial in the launch)
60 Foot 2.199
330 Foot 5.794
1/8 Mile Time & MPH 8.639 @ 89.52
1/4 Mile Time & MPH 12.987 @ 115.13

This was with a stock trans mount, and I was getting massive wheel hop on that side. I also didn't have the traction control set up properly on this run (it was off). With a driver mod, I feel it would cut a mid-low 12 on the Continental ExtremeContacts, or even a high 11 low 12's with slicks and perfect launch.

First time at dragging my '18 ST1 today, and I was impressed, especially considering the weather on Guam is terrible for drag racing. My best pass was 14.963 @ 94.33 mph. 60' was only 2.468, which I think could have been better as the water box was setup as a hose just streaming across the front of each lane. Never thought to try and spin the water off, which would have made a little difference I think since first gear past 3/4 throttle was useless. Either way, had a ton of fun making 5 passes today.

Shift at 5500 rpm, lower tire pressure to 24 psi for better traction. good luck!

This is my contribution, however I was not the owner of this car when this pass was made.
I acquired Jordan Laughner’s Triple yellow car, which is one of the quicker setups at the strip somehow.

The plan is to get the car back down the strip once I line out some of the issues I’m having.

The car has a SP63 stage 2-2.3 stroker longblock, a G25-660, SP63 4 Port, Quaife LSD, Carbon Synchros, ACT Twin disk w/Single Mass flywheel, an N2MB WOTBox, and is tuned by Edge Autosport. This pass was on E50.

The car is stone stock suspension other then a rear sway bar, and helper bags in the rear because he towed a small trailer with this car.
It was on a Bias ply for this pass.

The slip is hard to read but I decoded it the best I could.

1/4 MPH-126.58

Here is the video. It looks like an 11.11, but the time slip has a fat number there.
