Hello all,
A week ago I had my battery go out, dropped a socket and couldn't find it. Today driving, I hit pot hole I couldn't see because of rain(loud, large enough to scare me). Immediately turning into my work parking garage I realize my car will not go into 1st or 3rd, everything else just fine. I had to come into the office and clock in so I haven't had time to mess with it other than observing all the other gears work flawlessly(besides 1 and 3).
Naturally I get on the forums and search for previous posts about losing a gear. I see story after story of people having this happen and then finding out a walnut, or bolt from the air intake or something else had made it to a wedged position, blocking the shifter. I have no mods on my car(yet) other than cosmetics, not even a tune. 31k miles on my 2016. I have only had it since February so I haven't had much time to work on it. I can make it home with 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and reverse. To avoid taking it to Ford(even though its under warrant) and possibly fix it myself. Does anyone know the best way to go about checking where these items are that lodge and block the shifter? Do I simply start removing stuff from the inside sitting in the driver seat?

Any help would be appreciated!

Look down below and to the left of the battery box. There are two cables for your shifter there. One attaches to the z shaped shift arm. Your socket is probably preventing the other one of them from moving. Look around that little black lever that sticks up.

100% this was it. Socket was down there, didn't look like it was in the way or anything. Buddy jumped in and tried to put it in gear and the arm cam swinging over and hits the socket directly. Thank you so much for the help man, I knew it could be it and you pointed me exactly where I needed to go. I'd buy you a beer if I could
