Was lurking on the site and decided I should just join and post!

2017 st3, I'm the second owner and she's got 52k on her. Previous owner put on an aftermarket intercooler and intake, maybe a bigger turbo and blowoff valve? Lots of fun to drive, I've done about 5k miles on it.

Im guessing it's been flashed but didn't come with a accessport to change anything so I'm just guessing it's not stock. Any way to check without one? I do have an Odb2 Bluetooth module and torque app on my phone but I'm not sure what to look for

The intake is right under the dash (see pics) and is very loud. Makes a sucking noise that the wife doesn't like very much, any way to make it quieter? I don't mind the BOV sound just the sucking sound under any sort of throttle is annoying

Welcome! Looks like a 2JR cowl induction to me. Please tell me there is a filter on the end of it! Short of removing it and putting in a more stock airbox set-up I don't believe you will be able to quieten it much! The upside is you could remove it, sell it and put the proceeds toward a Mountune, CP-e or other option, or buy parts for the stock box and piping. A few shots of the complete engine bay and back would give a few more clues about other mods. Looks like a nice car, congrats!

Yeah there is a k&n filter with a sock over the intake.

Would I just need the stock intake tubing and filter box? Do I need to get it tuned if I go to it without replacing the BOV and turbo/intercooler?

I'll try to get some pics of the back of the engine.. It's hot as blazes out here and my hands are too big to fit down behind the cowl :)

Well it helps to answer what the spare set of premium wheel would look like on my car LOL.

Definitely get some more pictures.

That's all you should need but I've never seen the 2JR IRL so I can't say with certainty.

IF it has a BT/BOV setup it would require a tune to run properly along with one step cooler plugs and downpipe. Is it possible to get in contact with the previous owner? If it is stock turbo it won't need a tune but you'll get no benefit from any add-ons other than the intercooler (which is trash in stock form) which you already have to maintain intake temps.
Does your car go psssh when you let off the throttle? That will be a BOV. If it doesn't then you likely have a bypass valve which is what the stock one is. Make sense?

More pics will tell the tale.

yeah just stock piping and the filter box would be all you need, and some bolts as it mounts to the top of the motor. You also need a filter of course. There's nothing particularly wrong with the 2J intake, it works, its designed to get as much noise into the cabin as possible and its a bit off an oddball. I wouldn't rush to remove it, take your time to pick out what you want to do.

I like this thread. Came out honest, well written.

Nice. Maybe there is some hope for this forum.

Also, screw that intake. Gross. Swap it for anything else, lol. A full RS intake would probably be a good move.
