Hi, i bought this radio from Phoenix radios

but it's not compatible as told by the seller!
BUt i want it, it's wondeful... please help me and forgive me for my absence on this great forum.

My problem is how to connect rearcamera and steering wheel controls; i found on a mk3 of 2014 that the input cable of this radio fit on the original cable of the lcd, but my cable is so different and bigger than it! So i need a adapter but i don't now where find it.

Thanks

Got my head unit in today, a lot faster than expected. Seven days from Hong Kong to my door step on the east coast, not bad.

So I went out and played with it a bit. Got most stuff hooked up that I could identify (the "instructions" are pathetic). I've got most stuff working, but 2 things that aren't working that are highly important is my backup camera and hazard lights button. Putting the car in reverse activates the camera app, but it's just a black screen then comes up with No Signal. Hazard lights button does nothing at all, as does the lock / unlock button, but I wasn't expecting nor care if that button does anything. I do need the hazard lights though just in case.

Steering wheel controls are working. I haven't fully tested them, but volume works, and track next / previous works. Haven't tried call pick up / hang up yet. The voice button on the steering wheel activates something... I have no idea what it is. It's written in Chinese even though I have it set to English in the language settings. That was fun by the way, it defaulted to Chinese, had to randomly guess what to press to find a language selection lol.

There are some other problems too so far. It's getting some kind of interference on it, I can hear pieces of speech and static background whenever the speakers are "powered on" so to speak but no audio is playing. The wifi is also really weak. I don't know which wifi tech it's using, but to download gmaps update of ~55 MB it took like 15 minutes. I tested my phone connected to my wifi sitting in there car as well and can download 100 MBs in about 10 seconds. It's just got a tiny snub antenna on it, I've got some others around that might have better reception that I'll give a try.

The UI is also kind of meh. I wish I could change the mph / rpm bottom half of the screen to something else. I have that in front of me on the dash cluster, why do I need it on the radio too?

Anyway, I"m going to play with it more. But if I can't get the reverse camera working, it'll get returned. Not going to give up my backup camera for a radio hehe.

Guys, when you but from phoenixradios, write my name to have bonus ehehe!!!

For hazard lights you have to connect the emergency cable , it's a short cable that you have unplugged from your sync. Do you have a sync1? If yes, the doors button should work, strange! From my side, I modified the circuit to turn on the lights on the radio buttons and (i have sync2 with doors button on the door) I linked my gate remote control on doors button.
For the rear camera, you have to connect the fakra cable it was plugged into the monitor of sync1.
My friend with sync1 tried my radio, so ask me to help you to use all features

Ok, so just another update after playing with it more tonight. I got the hazard lights and reverse camera working... both were simple oversights on my part. The reverse camera it was not made clear anywhere that you needed to plug a wire from the main harness connection into the one the instructions label as "aftermarket camera". Also, I was happy to see that the turning guidelines are actually there as they are built into the camera feed and so I could just completely disable the guidelines the headunit was showing.

The hazard lights again was an oversight. None of the instructions showed the little connector at the bottom back of the unit directly behind the buttons, and I just didn't see it until tonight. I still don't get any illumination on those buttons, but the hazard light button is at least working now. Lock / unlock button does nothing as I expected. @MarcusFoFo you indicated that you had changed yours to remote hatch open, how did you do this? Did you splice into a certain wire or something to be able to give it another function?

So now I've got all the "major" issues worked out with the unit, but still have quite a few small problems.
  • USB ports don't work. I think I need to connect the cable labeled as USB transfer line, but I have no idea where the connection for that is in my car. I don't see it in the radio area anywhere.
@MarcusFoFo does your friend that has it setup have the USB ports working? If so can he tell me where he found the connector to tie into the USB ports?
  • Temperature shows 30 c when the unit powers on (even though it's set to display Fahrenheit) Only fix I've found for this is after the unit has finished booting, turn off the power then back on and it seems to reinitialize the sensor and pick up the accurate reading. This is an unacceptable work around though since the unit takes so long to boot. I'm not going to wait that long every time I start the car.
  • The long boot times would be another issue worth noting. It's a good 45 seconds to 1 minute to boot which is annoying.
  • The time at the top, and the time in the middle of the screen do not match. They are 1 hour different. I think one is observing DST and one isn't. If I change the setting for DST in the settings menu, they are still off by 1 hour from each other. The one in the middle including the date also does not adhere to configured regional settings. Shows the date formatted incorrectly and shows the time in 24 hour format even though it's configured to show in 12 hour format.
  • Can't get the phone link app to work with my phone. Installed the software it wants me to install and then try connecting it and let it sit there for over 5 minutes trying to connect and nothing
  • Video in the video player doesn't show video. I can hear audio but the video just shows an image of a car and an exclimation sign. I'm guessing video is disabled unless it detects the car in park, but with the car being a stick there is no "park"... The e-brake is up though...
  • System is showing as rooted and some apps will not work with it like Amazon Music which is really annoying and wasn't disclosed anywhere. I'm still looking to see if there is a viable work around for this.
  • It doesn't enter night time mode automatically as I'd expect, and putting it into nighttime mode simply turns the screen black instead of changing to nighttime mode dim settings.

I'm sure there are more things that I will find if I keep this and start actually using it. But these are the things that are already bothering me without the unit being fully installed yet lol

I try to answer to all your questions:
  • As i told you, there is a small connector for the hazard ehehehe.. but the botton lights don't work! you have to open the radio and link the power cable manually. it's simple, I can share the pic.
  • I plugged the usb sometimes, changing some configurations, but does'nt works. now I'0m fitting their usb instead the origina Ford , near the shift.
  • boot time is normal, it's a tablet not a radio
  • My radio is not rooted, and now i'm going to root it to change the launcher
My problems now are still the DAB radio and swc ... i plugged the original antenna fakra into the usb dab dongle but nothing...

Yeah, I got the factory USB port near the shifter in the little cubby under the thermostat controls working. The plug for it was connected to a little box directly behind the thermostat controls. There were 3 plugs going into that box, 2 USB plus (one with a light grey terminal the other with a black terminal), and one mass of wires, probably power and data signals and such. The USB plug with the black terminal is the one for up front. Like I said I'm pretty sure that is the main SYNC control box. But, I only have SYNC1 not 2 so I don't know if yours is in the same spot. I did not have any USB plugged directly into the back of the radio on my stock unit.

If you have android 6 I'm curious why the unit I received is rooted already and yours isn't? That is honestly one of the biggest problems left for me since it keeps quite a few apps I use from working.

hi guys, on phoenixandroid radios i read this new description.
Most features from the factory, like steering wheel control, backup camera, Bluetooth phone calls, etc, are retained. However, currently, without additional module(s) Android head units may not have SXM radio. SiriusXM Commander Touch™ may be used to get satellite radio. iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module may be used to retain SYNC®, OnStar®, Uconnect®, etc. Voice control can also be realized with Google Voice Search. We have yet to map a steering wheel switch to activate the feature. Sometimes, factory AUX input is also lost.

I have the same Phoenix tablet for my 2013 st2. I have no sound and the plug for my hazards and door unlocks are not correct. The adapter I have is square but my plug is flat. I really wanted to install it but I cant even get the sound to come on yet. Plugged everything in correctly. Any suggestions or help would definitely be appreciated

If you're electrically inclined, splicing is certainly possible, or creating your own adapter harness. However, I would recommend against this, and I am an electrician by trade, if that makes any difference. Your alternative is to pester the company for the proper parts, which by all accounts, they are spectacularly unhelpful.
I understand the allure, the units do look good, and the price point is certainly attractive compared to upgrading to Sync3.

Best of luck.

I posted this in my thread, but figured I’d ask you here as well. Can you use Apple CarPlay while listening to the radio? I want to have WAZE on my screen while driving, but have the radio on . CarPlay always overrides the radio. I’ll have WAZE open in CarPlay, hit the radio button to hear news and 5 seconds it switches back to CarPlay. Any idea how to have both work at the same time?

Contributing this older thread, I'm having an issue getting my reverse camera to show up. Guide lines show up but no picture and this is on my oem reverse camera. Seller sends me instructions for hooking up another camera but I'm not interested in doing that. The datalink is plugged into the unit but no luck. Everything else works fine though.

Tried that but it wouldn't give you the option for that. Talked to the seller but they just kept pushing their 3rd party camera. I also discovered the microphone didn't work either but same story from seller; use ours. After the slow issues with the Amazon Music app I added and the bluetooth cutting in and out, I reinstalled my Sync1 radio and returned the other. Looked great but not worth the hassle. Thanks for the your reply!
