NEW Focus ST Owner trying to figure out what I have.

My first foray into performance cars was a 2011 Mustang GT Supercharged that i drifted. I have moved on to a 2014 Focus ST which I intend to road course at the FIRM. When I bought this car I test drove to Focus STs and this was the livlier of the 2. I'm not a wrench and pay a guy to do the heavy lifting. That said I am trying to baseline this vehicle so I can upgrade it in the future. I'm looking for guidance on what to check.

I know I have some after market exhaust, it is noisy as hell. Got a COBB FMIC. When I get off throttle, the RPMs hange at the level I left it for a bit, and my son-in-law says that is a tune but we don't know what. I am going to get the car on a lift and take the belly pan off so we can figure out what I have for a turbo. What else should we be looking for?
Downpipes? oil Catch Can? Any of you guys in Central FLorida? anyhow I appreciate any feedback.

Congratulations! You'll have a blast tracking the FoST !
Post up some engine bay pics, front, back, top, bottom; and we can probably tell you what you've got.

Welcome! Also post a picture of the side of the turbo through the passenger wheel well.

If this one was noticably livlier than the other, it's probably tuned. I want to be absolutely clear when I say, do not get into boost below 3,000 rpm. And always downshift to pass. You'll knock a piston right out of these engines by creating a condition called LSPi (search it up and watch videos on it).

Welcome aboard! When you submit engine pics please include some beauty shots. And your miles.

You might want to see if you have Cobb maps already installed. Just follow the map switching instructions and see if the RPM dial responds:

The level at which boost comes

Is the level at which comes on something that is tuned, because I don't know how I would control that. CUrrently boost appears to come on about 3500RPM

SO I apparently have the COBB maps loaded into the ST. Here are some pics starting with engine bay. I tried t oreach up through passenger side to get a pic of the turbo, but I don't think I got enough. Any suggestions on how to get that picture? ALso included is a pic of the wing that came on the car that I removed. Car has 88K miles

yikes posting images seems unnecessarily tricky
You have a big turbo!! This is exciting! Good buy on this car.

Whatever you do, don't try to load any other tunes in it though. It's unfortunate you didn't get the tuning device though.

i see an intake manifold spacer (does nothing unless its plumbed for aux fuel or wmi, not seeing that though) boomba coolant cap, cfm breather on the oil cap, Cobb short shifter. I am also guessing from the elbow on the turbo that its Cobb's charge pipes too (which i believe they sold as a kit with their intercooler.) That thing in the center of the engine bay is a catch can, i am not famliar with JLT though.

You are missing washer cap lid...they are notorious for breaking, replacements are cheap and taste good though:

edit, also a hideous (the worst!) looking shift boot and themed shift knob. Ditch the boot immediately, negative 50whp.

Do you know how big or can you tell from that crappy image which turbo? Or will that require removing some parts to get better access? Also in the sixth image there is something to the right of the engine below thye intake that has COBB stamped on it. What is this?

hahaha the steelers shift boot came with the car and I haven't replaced it yet. THere was no knob so I got one that coordinates with the exterior color.

thats cobbs short shfiter mounted to the trans, cahnges the geometry of the throws, shortens them... first iteration of them wasnt great and they revised them later and they are fine. Mostly personal tastes on if you like the shorter throws.

Here is what the current gen looks like, has three labeled positions you can change:

The earlier ones i believe only had two positions and not labeled. some mixed feelings Cobbs versions here but if the shifting feels fine and you are happy with it, dont worry about it...
I kinda like the shift knob looks, tho I tend to prefer one more teardrop or longer/smaller diameter shaped.

For the boot, the car is Steelers color but it looks more like fabric from pajamas or curtains or something?! 😁
But it's all good, I do plenty of things others might consider strange too 😳😁

lol i do like the knob, pair it with normal boot and it will look sharp. I just have to give steelers fans some light hearted ribbings as a browns fan

The turbo is a Garrett GTX series, gen 2 (judging by the speed sensor port). Could also be a knockoff. The genuine Garrett turbo has "Garrett" cast in big bold letters on the side of the compressor housing that is blocked in this picture. Beyond that I can't comment on exactly what size. It does appear to be a 28 series in size but that's an eyeball guess.
