Just stumbped across this on the Mountune website. Seems like it is designed to give some of the benefit of the much debated catch can without needing a catch can (though I imagine you could still have a catch can in series)
Breather Plate, Ford EcoBoost 2.0L and 2.3L

Anyone tried this?

I would love to know the effectiveness of this too. Probably have Ford install it for me so they won't try to BS me should I have a warranty claim.
Not sure that you would necessarily keep your warranty... The MP275 package has a little badge on it's product page that says it does not affect the vehicle base warranty whereas this one does not. In fact it says

" WARNING:
This part has been designed and is intended for off-highway application only. Installation of this part on a vehicle that is driven on public roads may violate U.S. and Canadian laws and regulations relating to emission requirements and motor vehicle safety standards. Click Here for Emissions compliance information. "

Which I take as a not so subtle hint that they will not be keeping your warranty.

Is there an installation guide for it online? I looked under my hood for the OEM one, it looks like you'll have to remove the whole intake manifold

No online guide; yes, you need to remove the intake manifold.

I'm interested in something to better control the amount of oil reaching the backs of the valves. My question is which option is more warranty friendly, the breather plate, or a catch can?

I like the idea of the breather plate better, because it simply replaces a stock part and does the same job, only better. Plus, it's not an obvious addition to the engine compartment. Would be nice if Mountune made a stealth one in black.

How will you not be keeping your warranty??

Just because you modify your car, doesn't mean that Ford is hiding around the corner ready to pounce and say HA! GOT YOU!! No warranty for you!!

It doesn't work like that. You could have a fully build engine with big turbo and your warranty will be 100% intact. If you blow your engine up though, and take it to Ford, they will DENY your warranty CLAIM. You will still have a 100% intact warranty after this though.

If you have a fully built motor with big turbo and have issues with your brakes or suspension, Ford will/has to legally fix it because they need to be able to prove that the modifications were what caused the failure. If they cannot, they have to replace it.

I dont see how something like this could "void" anything; Its there to help crank case pressure, its a non-moving object
Plus they look nice. Now I purchased mine for 80$ from Speed performance

Yes, I understand that that's how warranty works... I was just trying to say it won't necessarily be as "hassle free" as the mountune products which actually state that they will not affect base warranty. The breather plate will have the exact same risk of a denied warranty claim as any other aftermarket part.

"Hassle" is the key word. I'd like to avoid as much hassle as I can and still achieve what I'm after.

I have worked in warranty for a while for a company that will not be named. This comes up A LOT.

What you said was "you will not be keeping your warranty" which is MUCH different than saying "there is a possibility that your warranty claim will be subject to questioning".

One gets everyone all bent out of shape and makes them think that they just spend $30,000 on their car and a $160 part just threw away any form of dealer support. It honestly bothers me how much you see this on the forums. "I am getting new wheels but will I lose my warranty" "I have an aftermarket air filter but will I lose my warranty" "I put on a catback exhaust but my brakes are now not working but I don't want to take it to the dealer because they will take my warranty away and sacrifice a kitten"

The dealer needs to prove that the modification caused the issue. You will always get the dealer who thinks you are stupid and tries to get out of covering something because they don't want to go through the hassle. This is where an educated consumer can step in and stand up for themselves. THIS is why forums SHOULD be used. To help educate the layman so that they can approach situations with some sort of knowledge.

If you have a breather plate and then have a cracked ringland on an otherwise stock engine, if they give you hassle about it, just explain that it simply isn't possible for that to have caused an issue. If anything, the breather plate will help with performance and reliability down the line by reducing carbon build up and allowing your intake ports and valves to stay clean.

I admit my original choice of words was a poor one. I didn't mean to say that your warranty was just going to get torn up.
