Is depo racing quality or a cheap knockoff brand?

Ive read SOOO much about this (WRX and Mits forums too). I want A FMIC and for 350, WOW! Some guys are claiming its a steal, others its a knock off that will fail long run. Some guys need to file down welds, drilling bigger holes into the sensor (i hate to do this because if i want to go back to stock im not sure how this will affect it), guys having to go to Autozone for bolts and brackets. CPE posted on a WRX form a picture for picture reason why a "competitor's" brand is not only stealing a design but doing it and cutting corners (this was for a down pipe), another guy on here had a complaint logged it on the the reviews and says someone at depo edited it and removed pictures. Some guys are swearing by it others condemning it; I just want to make sure what im bolting onto my car isnt some cheap knockoff that will end up costing me later because it was built from inferior materials and done in a rush. Or is it a a well made piece that has a budget customers in mind.

I am reviving this thread after about a year... I am interested in purchasing a FMIC, and as this thread debates- I am wondering if/how a Depo Racing FMIC compares to one made by Steeda, Garrett, Vortech, Mishimoto, Mountune, CPE et al at half the cost. Certainly the price point interests me, but I do not want to install a part that is not built or designed properly, even if it is only going on my otherwise mostly stock (for now) 2017 Focus ST. One thing that is important to me is sales and service support, and I am impressed with Tim T's super quick response to my pre-sales questions.

Tim advised that stock will be available in 4 to 5 weeks, and I was thinking about placing one on order. The only negative I have read or heard (besides slight irregularities I read about on these and other forums that seem to have been completely eliminated over the previous production runs) is the rusting intercooler supports / mounts. If that is still a problem, I'd plan on prepping and painting them before installation.

Any additional words of wisdom?

I'm running a Depo intercooler, charge pipes, catted downpipe and intake. I haven't had any issues with anything. I will say I prefer the mounting of the ESP intercooler since that looks Rock solid. But from what I've seen pretty much all of depo's products are well worth the money.

The Depo FMIC slides down into the plastic OEM mounts. There is 1/2” or so for it to rock back and forth upon acceleration/deceleration.

One of my “to-do” list items is to find some sort of padding or similar material to put in the gap to minimize FMIC movement. I’m running the 5.5.

I have the Depo beast, charge pipes and the catted DP all are about 5-6 years old 45K miles. straight from the box they looked good and yes visually only not gonna test the welds yadayadayada. everything fit amazingly and have had no issues with quality what so ever. for the price you cant go wrong but its honestly up to what you want and how you want your build to be represented. cheap functionality or high end warranty backed items that really put a name on what you buy. like a post above you could really go FBO for about 1000/1200$ or can do the same for 2400-3K. no matter the part there will always be that one failure by either user or manufacture flaw. for the price and how hard I drive my car everyday I would do it again.
