A. The engine air filter element may be removed or replaced provided the air flow path remains as originally designed (i.e., no additional openings). No other components of the air induction system may be removed, replaced, or modified.

Unless SCCA ruling specifically says you can do a modification, it isn't legal.

I have a Green filter and the cap has fallen out on multiple occasions but doesn't really have anywhere to go so it doesn't get lost.

you answered the question... you can NOT alter it... so no you CAN NOT add a after market intake. Because adding any aftermarket intake even an open ended filter would take you out of the class.

The system your referring to is a complete air intake replacement which would be 100% of the system, the rule says you can barely change 5% of the system.
