Hi all!

I have a 2014 with base head unit, original owner. Felt it was time to update and modernize.
I've watched a ton of installation and setup videos, installed the new head unit. Very easy and straight forward swap. Plugs are pretty much idiot proof.

BUT as I'm sure you know, the little instruction booklet is not too good.
I've contacted the sellers, in China, and they have been somewhat helpful, sent two videos, but questions remain.
This is the unit I purchased.

I am hoping some of you gents have had, and figured out how to sort out the same problems.
1. Unable to assign the steering wheel button commands. I keep getting a Attempt, unsuccessful, try again notice. Does the GPS need to be active? Instructions not clear on this.

2. There are two USB plugs, "C" & "D" plugs connected to the unit when I pulled it out of the box, which should be used for the Apple play Dongle USB connection? I ask, because I attempted to plug in my iPod classic just to see if it would play, (not sure which USB cable, dumb move) and it got corrupted, and wiped out my entire music library. Pissed is beyond words, but I'll deal with that later. For now I want to make sure I don't do the same to my iPhone. In the video they sent me, it looks like there's software I need to download onto the unit for the Apple carplay to work with the iPhone. I tried it, but no internet connection. Instruction booklet says plugs on either side of the USB plugs should not be used, "useless".

3. Actually connecting to the internet to download the software. I'm in my driveway, 20 feet from the router in my basement, but am not getting the WiFi connection. My iPad is connected, so the distance is not an issue.

Here's a pic of the current situation with noted questions I sent to the sellers. The extra plug from the dongle appears to not be needed, but I asked anyway.

Appreciate any input you all have.
I'm basically looking for a Step by step guide an idiot like myself can follow! LOL! Step1-Do this, Step 2-Do this, then etc...

Cheers gents!

I bought this one off Ebay a short while ago for my 2017 and everything worked including the steering wheel controls except for the rear camera. I had to splice into the factory connector to get the rear camera to function but it wasnt a difficult process. Its been fine ever since. I did try a full screen version before this one and had nothing but problems so I sent that one back.

Hey, I am new to this as well I know this is an Old Post. However I can relate to it, so long story short I have one of the Android Tesla Model head units. I am attempting to have it fully functioning in my 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat. I have the Sony stock system as well with the stock amp and all. Everything works that I can tell except for the sound, I have no sound. After doing my own research I did come across a "PAC T-Harneess" of some sort that particular harness has the RR maestro module or something. By this point do you know if making that investment is the only way to make this head unit have sound with the stock Sony amp? Or is there something else that I am missing maybe a wire or two that needs to be spliced? On my harness when I have everything plugged in that has a place to plug in there is a connection coming from my truck behind the head unit that of course has nothing plugged into it I am 99% positive those are the wires going to that connection coming from the amplifier which would make sense for the lack of sound. Is there any sort of splicing or just a simple adapter that I can invest in? Any sort of advice or help or tip opinion, anything at all would be much much appreciated.

Has anyone got these head units to function with a Sony system? Got everything working except the lock and hazards and no sound, I assume that's because of the factory amp, like mentioned above the installation instructions are terrible..
i am going to assume you need to do some forscan work to turn on the line out. I havent changed out headunits with what linked above but i did delete the sony dsp using the harness naviupgrade sells and their file for APIM Module Config they emailed me. This lets me run my amp/dsp with the oem sony screen.

I would think the lock/hazards is a separate issue, those are controlled but their own switch/circut. that might be a wiring issue. Which screen do you have, the full 10" screen linked in the first post or the smaller one in the post right above yours? I am tempted to try out the smaller screen.

which stereo were you starting with the sony or the ST1? Are you running an aftermarket amp/speakers or the factory stuff?

10.4 " like above I pulled out the Sony sync (factory sub and 6 speakers), I'm thinking I'm missing a harness at this point, because I see the harness for the hazards and locks but they don't connect to anything...only thing I can think of is the factory amp is turned on by the harness that nothing is connected to

I still have the unit I removed from my ST when I traded it if anybody would be interested in it. I don't have the original box but it does have everything that came with it and worked as it should when removed. The link for it is in my previous comment. I can't belive how high the price has gone up on it but I'll let it go at a fair price. Otherwise, it'll just sit on my office floor.
