So I had an automatic 5.0 with a 2500 stall converter on it. Ran 1.6-1.7 60 fts like clock work. So i figured i was a pretty good driver and know could handle a fast car. Well I know how to drive Std. but this is my first performance std. car and its OBVIOUS that i dont know what im doing. I took it 2 times down the track last night. I went all out: took out the spare and lowered tire pressure to 28psi, (being quite familiar with the drag and not a novice). Rolled up to check in and official asked "you have a helmet?", "No" I replied, "I dont think ill hit below 14", "you're driving a focus ST guys hit 13s on the reg.. these are badass little cars" (Also all the tuners well looking at me with envy, wondering what i was going to hit) =/ .1st pass: 2.7 60 ft and a 15.6 1/4 @ 91 mph "ok, ok, ok" I thought, "im just getting used to it". 2nd pass: 2.53 60 ft, 15. 1 @ 93 mph .... soul crushed. Well when i launched the car it wheel hooped badly and then bogged HARD, RPMs dropped to 1800 hundred then it finally hit power, chirped 2nd and rolled down the track in the low 90s. I was pretty embarrassed

Help. (only made two passes and tucked my tail between my legs and went home, especially given the fact that all the tuners well looking at me with envy =/)

(posted in DR...but i figured guys here can help as this is a street racing problem and not just a drag racing problem)

Well just like everything it will take some practice I still screw up every once in a while launching the car on the track just because it is so different from the street where I know it's going to spin hard through multiple gears. For a stock car I think most people were holding at like 2500 and then a light slip off of the clutch and shifting before 5500 because of the power band best of luck to you. Keep at it and you will get better and you will find something that works for you l, as you add mods the way you drive the car will change as well.

haha thx. I really didnt care, i doubt anyone notices haha im just playing up the situation. Its embarrassing to me because i thought id be able to drive it alot better then this. As for the driving: I thought slipping the cluth is bad for it. Also I wasnt doing that i was holding the RPMs to 2500 and i guess 'dumping' the clutch...could that have been what was making the car bog? I wasnt letting off the clutch slowly?

Man I once did launch control and for what ever reason it hooked hard. I heard a loud bang and engine shut down on me. Turned it back on and it ran horrible. It went into limp mode and I drove 20mph all the way home lol. Not doing that again until I upgrade my motor mounts

yes the first pass was Spotr mode ...second was ESC mode off completely
I just remembered this and you will get a laugh out of it haha... so I went to the track a while back as you could imagine, did my burnout as usual go to pull up to the staging beams and for what ever reason hit the traction control button turning it off, staged up for what ever reason thought that I was in the protree lane so the first bulb goes off and BOOM I am thinking that I am going to cut an awesome ass light which ended up being a red light and as the icing on the cake the car fell dead in its face because traction control was on... FAIL

Sport Mode, shift between 5500-5800 rpm.

As for the launch. Launch the car like you do from a light and just become more aggressive with until you get a hint of wheel spin.

The easier way to do this is get a tune, set the 2 Step/Launch Control to about 2500 rpm. But if you work with your tuner you can tell him to leave the boost limit in 1st gear on.

It is true especially where 93 octane is available the car will run 13's dead stock.

I have worked the ET down to 13.4 but I use slicks and launch at 4200 rpm. That's just with a tune and still working on shift points.

I guess thats why the guy was 50 50 about a helmet. Good 93 is available everywhere and the car feels strong. Also ive never launched this car from a light. 1400 miles on it and thats the first time i tried launching it...ever

Eventually you'll find wheel hop with radials, then you'll need mounts + drop the pressure down to soften the sidewall.

My car went down the track on slicks and a tune with about 400 miles on it = [email protected] and I didn't know exact shift point and I didn't know I needed to deactivate traction control in order to generate the wheel spin for the burnout to heat up the slicks.

I live in Southern California, we only have 91 and it's terrible, about 220 hp stock. I went with a E30, then E40 tune. I'm on revision #4, but revision #5 is coming. I've already added a few other things now, but if I stayed with just the tune, the car would eventually run 13.00, maybe 12.9 at around 102-103 mph.

It would be easier with the seats out of it plus spare/tool, hatch cover, hatch carpet = 180lbs
