I just did this last Saturday to my drivers seat. Night and freakin day. My seats looked a bit different though, but super close. No cutting involved I just drilled out four pop rivets and had to relocate a wirekeeper then backfilled the voids with foam. Took some pictures for reference:

Red boxes show the pop rivets, two are hidden by the angle. Didn't have the two claw things mentioned in a post further up.

Bottom of pop rivets. Instead of drilling you can just cut the three "wings" off with some cutters and it should just fall out. If not may need to mash it up a bit with some pliers the holes are far larger than they needed to be:

Your pictures are different than mine. It must be some difference in manufacturing because i dont have the rivits. The plastic on my is solid, most likely injection molded.

I believe is it the same piece and the rivets are in different locations. Check out my images below. The arrows in each images are pointing to the plastic "wings" we are trying to eliminate. So as I understand it after the rivets are removed, the whole plastic section comes out.

Ahhh. I see. I assume that would make the seat cushion shorter.

ordered the foam, going to get it this afternoon and doing this mod today as long as the rain holds off for a couple hours. Driving to Chicago tomorrow so I am really hoping this makes the seats perfect!

Can't believe I'm already cutting on a car that hasn't had its first oil change yet. lol

I think im gonna order some real car sear foam and redo the mod this summer. While i have the seat out ill be adding a little something extra for comfort. More on that later.

I noticed there wasn't pics or write up of the passenger seat. It works the same way, but there is a couple differences...

This has a little plastic cap that keeps a t30 that holds the adjuster handle

After removing the adjuster(just pull straight up away from the seat)

After removing the clips and stuff, and the side cover, there is this pad. I think this is the heater, but I still put my foam on top. I'll keep an eye on it, and post up if there are any weird smells

The heating pad is inside the foam or directly below the leather.

Do you know what this is then? This pad (or whatever you call it) looked to have chambers or wiring in it
According to a limited google search its some kind of helpful bolster shaping plastic.

I am curious if a whole Ti seat will just replace it without having to do any modifications. i.e. The whole seat and back.

The only thing is that the sweet ST logo would be gone but my girlfriend hate the seat because ha some rowing crew thighs from her college days.

Does this work for the ST2 recaros as well? Did the sawzall cut ok by the hooks, avoiding them easily? Thanks... Prob gonna do this mod today. How long does this take, start to finish? 3 - 4 hours?

Scott
What year is you ST? The 15's don't have the hooks. If you go that route you can't go back if you ever want to. It's only 4 rivets holding the plastic piece in.

About 2 hours per seat is right. I dont regret having done this mod.

As for swapping the whole seat. That only works for 1 of the front seats, cant remember which one though. Someone else did it in the past and wrote about it. After swapping both seats an SRS light was on which means that something in the air bag system has been disabled. In the event of accident where an airbag should have deployed but didnt due to a mod your insurance MAY not pay.
