I'm curious about you guys driving habits. How often and when do you go WOT if at all? I might get flammed for saying this but here goes:

Anyone over 20 yrs old knows basic do's and don't about driving a fast car. Don't go racing on the streets. Don't speed in residential zones etc... But it seems to me as I read through the forums and talk to people I know that the general thinking these times is if you are over the speed limit by more than 10 mph or you do a pull from 1st to 3rd even if its a night on a completely deserted road you are a dangerous freak that should be revoked his driver's license... WTF!!!:furious: Its getting to a point where 3 days ago a colleague of mine got yelled at for 2 good minutes because she answered a phone call without a bluetooth while she was parking her car in a lot (its illegal around here). Is it just me or this is a bit over the top?

I ALWAYS keep a safe distance with the car in front of me unlike 90% of the drivers I see on the road. I NEVER speed in residential / scholar zones. I don't take turns at unreasonable speeds just to test if my car can handle it. I try to avoid pulling hard in my car as soon as there is other cars around. Actually during the day / when I'm not alone on the road I drive pretty safely. Not "grandpa" safe (and that's another topic) but FAAARRRR from reckless. One thing that is sure tho is if I'm the first on a red light and there is a long stretch in front of me at night... no one around, I'll go WOT and see how fast this car can take me to 80! Hell I even raced a 350z at night in a 55 mph zone which was empty and straight for a good mile. Stopped at 100 mph. Don't tell me I'm the only one?! Why would you buy a car with 270lbs/ft of torque if you're not gonna floor it once in a while?! To me as long as you have a good ability to judge what's safe, not so safe and what you shouldn't do, its totally fine to have some fun with your car!

The guys the age of my dad (I'm 30 btw) used to drive super fast on tiny roads with cars that had ZERO handling without any airbags, seat belt off with a big beer in between the legs. Now THAT was reckless. I feel way more safe in my car with ABS, super high tech traction control with sports tuned suspension and wide tires at 100mph on the freeway than I would at 35 mph in the plenty of rust buckets with broken parts and flat tires I see on the road. Car safety and handling as gone so far and yet we are at times where people are being so scared on the road. And in my opinion these are the same people that to me are more prone to cause accidents because they brake like freaks in dense circulation for no reason. You run at risk of rear-ending them as they take turns at 5 mph or get almost at a stop as they fail to merge on a dense traffic highway.

Hopefully I won't attract some negative luck on me for saying this but I've been driving the way I described for 12 years now and I have yet to get into an accident *crosses fingers*. On top of it here we have pretty harsh winters and roads full of cracks and pottholes all of which increases the likeliness of such an event. Don't go tell me I'm the only one driving my ST hard when I get the chance?!? Hell I didn't buy this car for its MPG!

On a final note, my car is bone stock and I don't intent to modify it for now as it has plenty of power to my taste. But it seems to me about 50% of the people on here have tuned their ST to a certain degree yet when I see a post about someone racing another car or w/e he gets flammed down for 5 pages long. What is up with that? Enlighten me!

Sorry for the long post... I had to get this off my back somewhere!

P.S : Grammar police be gone, English isn't my main language!

I might be wrong but I think a car being a tank is not a good thing. I've done a couple classes of physics back in the days and to my understanding cars these days as they collapse dissipates a greater part of the impact as heat and random movement from frame bending. That being said if you get hit by a big truck your in a worse position but if its a car with similar mass its better to have both car being totaled than the body barely bending and being hurt from too hard of a deceleration.

You are totally right tho all this tech and airbags wont save anyone from being imprudent.

I am 24 and all over the spectrum. I get on it at times, mpg at others and everything in between.

I drive the car. It gets me where I need to go. Sometimes faster than others, sometimes slower than others. But I always enjoy it.

Lately, I've been having more fun driving the speed limit and pissing people off. Angry drivers make the funniest faces. They race around me and I just smile and when I roll up to them at the next red light. Morons.

Lol it's so true. Driving the speed limit, even in the slow lane and a lot of people go freaking nuts.. serious road rage issues.

As to the OP, Where's the I drive normally option with occasional WOT pulls? I don't plan on ever tracking my car, but I drive normally but let all hell loose occasionally when it's clear (such as a nice highway on-ramp).

I'm all over over the place also. You can find me doing the posted limit around town, or letting my tail end swing out while taking an on/off ramp.

I'm all for safety. Safety while driving, safety while handling firearms, safety while working, etc. Some people, however, go way too far. Some people need to realize that our universe is one big unsafe place to be, and just STFU and enjoy life without worrying about that guy that just passed you doing 20mph over.

Have fun and drive safe,

I always change lanes slowly, brake slowly, occasionally take a corner after braking at a moderate to aggressive pace when conditions permit and it's safe to do so.

I have a Snapshot device that has saved ,me 13% so far. (They log "hard brakes" and look at when and how often you drive). My device very rarely beeps at me.

I love feeling the turbo start to apply boost at low RPMs with the windows down and upshifting no higher than 2.5 k RPMs...hearing the little whoosh from the turbo...especially when next to a wall or something that really reflects those high pitched sounds back toward the vehicle. Motor has a nice low grunt as well. If there isn't terr8blr traffic I seem to be able to get 27-ish MPG just driving "normally". At the worst...if I really try keeping up with traffic and having a little fun burying the accelerator into the firewall's carpet on a conservative basis - I.e. wide open throttle at 2.5k rpm, I seem to not really get worse than 22 mpg. Interestingly the MPG gauge "likes" downshifting and this seems to boost the mpg bean counter's calculations. I still haven't got me any Eco trophy yet.

Oh yeah...I also take pride in being able to push the car to it's limit at times without abusing it...and without knowing jeopardizing anyone else's safety.

I like to have an idea of how fast I can take a corner before traction starts to give way. Enter slow. Exit fast. The ST isn't just quick in a straight line: The German made Goodyear tires are pretty reliably sticky in both wet and dry conditions. I feel like they are not very hydroplane resistant though, but the rim protectors have saved paint a time or two. They smell like good quality tires when they heat up too: Smells like some polybutadiene (a.k.a new sneaker rubber smell) in my opinion.

Had my fiance and her mother in the car today after picking up a pizza from Papa John's - didn't drop the clutch. Traffic light was about to change and had to get on her with Sport mode on and shifted to second after just passing the soft redline and didn't hit the hard fuel cutoff either. It was obviously safe to do this and I think we went from about 5 to 30 in about 3 seconds. No clunk either because I didn't nail second gear. I would say it's probably good for the cute little EcoBeast motor to get a little workout once in a while.

I always use my turn signals too!

I actually bought this car because it gets the best MPG's of any ~$30K fully optioned hatch with a stick. I try and get at least 30mpg avg per tank. (ususally better)

But that said... I still occasionally go through a tank, ... or two, like I stole it! :)

I drive fairly aggressively. However, I don't drive dangerously, I do the speed limit when it makes sense to me (residential areas, school zones, etc), and I am always aware of my surroundings. I certainly don't drive slow, I get up to speed as quickly as I can, and slow people irritate me. I demand a lot from my cars. Over the last 5 cars and around 400,000 miles I have never had an accident, or speeding ticket (thank you radar detector). The 2 accidents I have been in were both the other parties fault, one due to a lady blowing a red light and hitting me, and the other due to snow in Wisconsin (they slid through a light and hit me, and were driving much too fast for conditions). So that being said, I voted "I drive it like I stole it" but it should be "I drive it like I stole it under certain conditions."

I'm 21 and only gotten my car to 45-5k RPMS on on ramps. Other than that, I shift at 2-2500 and get those MPG's. I feel like if I wanted to go fast (which I love) ill just ride a liter bike (that's another long story) ST's are not made for racing and I treat my car like its supposed to be. It looks great, drives like it should(minus the torque steer issue) , and turns heads with no problems. I tend to not race as well because there are undercover cops in my area who try to get people to race. Funny though, they don't arrest anyone around here unless you lose. ;) true story.

I'm 23... People arr surprised I still have my license... Some people are also surprised I lost it... I drive the way I want to not the way people try to tell me. There are numerous things I can get Into and discuss at but that's just going to take up too much of my time...
I'll drive and get 30-50mpg...
But I've also ran though a full tank in an hour

I drive like a puss.i want my car in showroom shape when I sell it or trade it for the rs. if they build it, it will come

For me it depends on what traffic is doing and how good of a read you can get on it.

If peeps are behaving and there isn't the excess of cell phones and distracted drivers, I'm cool.

Traffic? Either I'm in the pocket between clusters, keeping distance ahead of them, or laying back some. Again, depends on the read of the traffic.

There are some roads/off-ramps that I'll be "spirited" with.

I drive pretty civil on the streets. There are times when I push a little hard on it. When the drag races are going on I take it to the max that the car allows. I have yet to auto cross, but thats my next step for testing the STs limits.

Another vote for all over the place. Generally drive with traffic, sometimes push it. A little easier with my gf as she has back issues and it hurts her to be slammed back and forth with heavy footed shifting; she appreciates the Recaros as I'm spirited in the turns. Thinking of attending the ST Octane Academy; even if I never go on another track, what I learn there will make me better in an emergency maneuver. Yes, I grew up in the muscle car era, when you could save few bucks to spend on multiple carbs by passing on disc brakes (think Hemi Roadrunner). Funny thing is, my insurance went down $7 for a six month policy, same coverage, for this car over the 2008 SES, so it must be safer.

Grip n rip on the interstate! If your in the left lane and you see a car coming up on ya flashing Hi beams its prb me. City driving I'm keeping it cool, common sense man. Oh and don't pass in the slow lanes at high speeds.
