Just picked up a 2014 focus ST2. Pretty fun. Already ready to go faster, but poor ATM. They are definitely fun. It came from a Ford dealer, with bov, which I thought was nice, just ready to do something with the exhaust, that won't hit my bank hard. Maybe like a resonator delete? And I already adjusted the sound symposer, so it sounds a little nicer. Was that a bad idea? Andy long term bad effects?

The only adjustments you can do to the sound symposer is with a tune. You can have it come on sooner or turn it off. You can remove it completely. Also you can tape the two tubes together so it's "always on".

Why in the world is that a thing?

I keep hearing/seeing people with this taped up tubes. It sounds good in the cabin, but does it have any positive/negative effect other than the sound?

I have heard this before. At idle it actually sounds great, above idle not so much. I wouldnt mind a setting where it was only open at idle and off while driving.
I guess it's just that I can't stand the idea. The idea of "faking" anything for affect feels like they are fishing for compliments almost.

No I imagine it does nothing since all it does it funnel sound for more "bass-ey" effect.

The sound isn't fake since it does come from the intake. The ones that go over a speaker is fake.

Yes, but they are taking a sound and amplifying it to have a greater effect for the same purpose as the speaker version. It's like tunneling a hose from your exhaust to hear more exhaust note compared to what you have originally. I just don't dig it.

Some people have removed their engine cover and the insulation on the hood to get more engine noise. If it wasn't for all the sound dampening I don't Ford would have needed this.

Agreed. I guess it's a hard life deciding between better cabin noise reduction and hearing your motor. Since I don't like loud rode noise (winter tires suck) you wouldn't find me removing insulation.

All of mine is still in place. I get plenty of noise from my turboback exhaust.

My catless DP is starting to get broken in and getting more and more throaty so I'm becoming more satisfied each day. Still considering a resonator delete though.

How does a hollow tube have a break in? I understand catted or a muffler.
