So yesterday and today I have been having issues with my lock and unlock thats built into the door handle. It has always worked flawlessly until yesterday.
I have a hell of a time trying to get the car to unlock when I put my hand behind the handle. I can try 7-8 times and nothing. The lock button, the little sensor on the outside of the handle doesnt lock the door.
I love this feature of the car so it is frustrating me that it just seemed to STB.

I had a reprogram done at the dealership this past saturday, there was a recall so they did it while working on something else. I forget what the recall was specifically but I am wondering if it had an impact on the lock and unlock

Other than that, it has been fairly cold/wet and the roads have a lot of salt on them, so I thought that maybe with the salt and water I am not getting a clean signal through? I trued wiping the sensors down, but still nothing

Anyone else having/had this problem?
Im going to call the dealer if it continues, because like I said, I really like that feature.

Sometimes mine reacts a little slower than normal, but usually if I don't touch it for a few seconds and try again it works just fine. I have wondered, though, if the mechanism that senses your touch is something that can wear out.

It isn't perfect. Very cold or wet weather affects it

It worked all last winter. It just seemed fishy that right after they reprogrammed parts of the car it all of the sudden doesnt work for crap

I have the same problem sometimes... It just fixes itself but I hear that you can get dirt stuck into the sensor on the back of the handle.... I would say a nice high pressure wash would clean it out.

Cold + Wet does not pay well with the sensor. I believe it uses heat or moisture from your hand? Either way mine gets screwed up whenever it gets really cold and wet like this past weekend when we got 8in of snow. Whenever this happens I just use the capacitive buttons on the A pillar so I still don't have to take my keys out.

Yeah its kind of strange. The weather conditions did not change while at work yesterday but it seemed to work when I got out.
I guess Ill just track it and if it seems to be a problem, Ill ask the dealer if there was any way the reprogram could have effected it.

What I do if mine doesn't work immediately is 1) get closer to the car. 2) move my hand along the back of the handle (where the sensor is) and you'll feel a groove. I just move my fingers along that groove and that usually unlocks it.
So you have to find her g-spot

Here is the video I made awhile back.

I do note in the video things can interfere with your key. This mainly happens if they are in the same pocket as another set of keys.

damn, I didnt know it would unlock the back.... thats a game changer!
but yeah I found that other stuff in the pockets impacted that. I have a system now
Front right pocket - car fob only
Front left - Cell phone
Back left - lanyard with all other keys
Back right- wallet

I think they changed that during the 14 model year where it no longer works for the back.

This always kinda blew my mind how the back doors would still unlock without sensors in the handles? Also why the heck couldn't they make the sensor pad in the front handles body color? BTW, my passenger side handle sensor has been inop forever, but since I don't use that side I haven't tried to fix it. I'm thinking a connector inside the door came unseated.

I believe there is a TSB for that.

drove and RS last week, there was a thumb indent in the handle. the car was already unlocked so idk if it still has the same feature as the ST but if it does, the RS has it painted to match.

The 2017 Lincoln MKC has them on top of the handle. I still can never get the wave your foot under the back to open the damn hatch on it though. Lol! It is my moms car.

Oh and my ST has been acting up since the weather is cold and wet with the doors. First thing in the morning they rarely work right.

I have this issue happen on my car intermittently too. I notice it most, when my right hip is turned away from the car, since my key is always in my right pocket. If I move my right pocket closer, it works. I believe the key has to be within 3 feet of the door but I wouldn't be surprised if its half that.

Also, if you pull on the handle before the door is unlocked, it will cancel the unlock. If you don't hear it unlock, don't try to pull the handle.

I have heard that things in pocket can interfere with the signal, but I think it's not as much as people think. I have two push button start vehicles, both fobs are on the same key ring along with my house key and a little metal wrench I have with no issues. I also keep my change in that pocket and occasionally have my work and personal cell in the same pocket and it hasn't messed with the lock or unlocking of the door.

And my 2016 does not unlock from the back door.
