Lets get this straight for the record: The ELM327 does or does not need to be modded in order to enable the Global Windows operation? There are quite a few mixed responses littered throughout the thread..

This thread IS far to big...thats why a second thread was created with nothing but the facts. This forum started out that way but escalated very very quickly to what you see now.

Well, it doesn't. But it does to clear the DTC's created by doing the mod so it's kinda one of those chicken/egg things but since we're doing a "For the record"....
Completed the mod Thursday night using the unmodified ELM327. I can confirm that it went flawlessly and the vehicle threw no codes in the process. I also pulled a copy of the BCM .XML and saved it as a last resort back-up.

So yes, it is not necessary to modify the ELM327 in order to perform the mod. Perform the procedure with key on / engine off and there should be no issues.

You WILL have codes on hs-can and ms-can just no check engine light (CEL). But given some time the codes will go away without clearing them.

Wow too many pages for me to read thru this but this seems like risky stuff but i want global windows lol would this void warranty? Also someone asked if this can do ipc update no one answered that question. Can ford tell if you've messed with settings? I don't want a voided warranty lol Is there an automation program to change things instead of doing it manually just like a tuner and pressing a button and it does all the work? Cause i have no idea how any of this works and i dont wanna screw my car up or brick it

Currently there is no one click fix. And I doubt there will be. Just follow the instructions and you'll be alright.

It CAN do the ipc update but is not recommended. If the update fails you will render your car undrivable. Ford dealers or people who have the ability to update their own cars with proper hardware can fix it but if you have that hardware you should use that instead. This would be my recommendation for software update DIY. http://www.drewtech.com/products/Mongoose/mongoosepwm.html

I have done it and had no DTCs at all.
Did you use forscan or did you check with an app of some sort for the dtc's?

Will the dealership's shop reset all of this if/when they work on my car?

Has anyone done the global open/close while being tuned? Any issues doing any if this if you are tuned?

This affects the bcm, a tuner affects a pcm. Completely different module.
I am also tuned and have no issues with this...the capability comes with the car its unknown why ford chose to leave it disabled.

One question. A local guy is going to do Global Open/Close and change the setting for HID's (I have retrofits). Does the alternate HID/no dipped beam mode just not cut power to the circuit? I just need to know if it's fine to leave the resistor in after the fact, until I can get home and take the headlight out and reconnect without the resistor in place.

Also, these are the necessary changes, correct?

Set #17 to 01 and #14 to Alternate HID
